I did a little research, nothing really in depth so far. While nothing expressly states this ability there are some facts that may reference it. The Egyptian Sphinx was known as a guardian that protected sacred places and prevented attacks simply by its presence. This could mean it had some magical ability to dampen attackers or that it merely intimidated them.

The Greek sphinx as we may all know was the riddle maker. It asked a riddle and strangled those who answered incorrectly. In some versions of its myth it is mentioned the Sphinx prevented all attempts of trying to deceive it, attack it or finding another way to pass. This could mean that it prevented magic from being cast or maybe that it was incredibly cunning. It was very vague.

The Indian Sphinx also known as the purushamriga, takes off the sins and evils of a man. This could be a reference to stealing magic or not.

I don't have anything concrete yet, but I'm still looking.

The Egyptian androsphinx is a symbol of abundance, power, wisdom, mysteries, riddles, truth, unity, and secrets. Sometimes a pair of sphinx was pictured with the tree of Life as a symbol of fertility and conception. As a solar symbol, the sphinx is often associated with the sun god Ra; Horus in the Horizon; and Harmakhis, the Lord of the Two Horizons, who represents the rising and setting sun, rebirth, and resurrection. Androsphinx usually bear the face of the pharaoh who ordered their construction and symbolize the divine power and wisdom he used to rule and protect his people.

Since its form combines human and animal parts into one body, the sphinx usually symbolizes the union of mind and body or intellectual, spiritual, and physical strengths with varying results. It is also, when composed of four animals including a human, a symbol of the four elements - earth, wind, fire, and water. The Druids counted a many-breasted sphinx among their fertility and maternal symbols.

I did read about shapeshifting, but that was on a site about "Egyptian Birthsigns" so I doubt the accuracy.

The Egyptian Sphinx has a human head in a body of león. For more than a thousand years it has been used by wizards and witches to take care of valuable and secret hiding places. Highly intelligent, the Sphinx delights with its riddles and puzzles. Generally speaking, it is only dangerous when that custody is threatened

Anyways, I could always just use memories to mod my weapon into being a magic dampener if we can't prove the Sphinx could drain/dampen magic

Having a resilience to magic would explain part of their popularity as guardians.

After all, something that is smarter than most humans, has cat like reflexes and strength as well as above human strength would make an excellent guardian anyway.

Magical Resilience would make them very attractive guardian for magicians who want to keep other magicians away.

After all, without magic, a magician is just a guy with a stick. A Sphinx is still a Sphinx.

Like I said, use memories, it could be your struggle memory. I think that it would fall under either dispair or determination, or maybe even happiness for that matter.

yes, I read all posts. Exept a few in New beginning party. He can use one memory for magic resistance, or even be taught it by one of the NPCs I'm not entirely convinced that sphynxes have magic resistance to begin with, If their guardians they can easily be just charmed with magic resistance in the first place, it doesn't make them naturally resiliant.
