I may just go with a sphinx, or rather an androsphinx since I'm a guy. I can think of several abilities like magic dampening or absorbtion.....

fair enough, like I was saying right up the character sheets, and as I stated ealier you can mix several species if you wish to create a chimera of sorts for your character.

While I'm here I'm thinking of adding the function of teacher NPCs that allow you to learn magic, or abilities in exchange for either money, memories, or completing tasks.

In regards to the starting memories can they be anything as long as we have one for struggle, shape and Holy.

pretty much yes, but start at a kind of low power I suppose. For the holy memory for my character I was going for illusion making, with the ability to create a solid object for a period of a few seconds. for struggle I was going to go for a memory of determinatiom and for shape a memory of sorrow making a ribbed slashing device to begin with.
