Oh. Right. I was still thinking about the number of chromosomes each parent contributes during intercourse (stupid biology gets stuck in your head after a while, lol)

Not for me, but I can see why some people would suffer that problem -the word "intercourse" (or rather, the unofficial term) sticks out in any conversation.

Well, we had our last bio lecture in class on Wednesday, and the whole convo on reproduction was anything except what one would expect; no giggling, no pointing at nudie pics...just VERY VERY graphic detail about the reproductive cycle, sans any potentially-giggle-inducing naughty words (which are replaced by obscenely detailed descriptions of the process that would easily make a delivery technician queasy)

Nasty.
On a side note, that is how the creator of the Jumpers in Wild Cards grants the power. The creepy thing is, most of the gang are teenaged boys (though there are a number of girls too) and he is a cold-hearted lawyer. He got his power after an encounter with The Sleeper in his Typhoid Croyd phase -who carried a new strain of the wild cards which, in addition to infecting nats (normal humans), could reinfect existing Wild Carder with a new mutation -Jokers to Aces, Ace to Ace, Joker to Black Queen, Ace to Black Queen, even Ace to Joker. Oh yes, in Wild Cards, the virus works like this: -30% of the infected remain dormant, either surfacing later or not at all, only to pass it on to their children (which is why it still exists after being released in 15 September 1946) as a recessive trait. -Of those affected, 90% die in horrific ways, exploding, melting, burning, even turning to stone. These are called Black Queens. -9% of the infected survive, but gain hideous mutations or a crippling one (though there are exceptions). These are called Jokers. -1% of the infected not only survive without difiguremnt/disability, but gain powers. These are called Aces. -Some aces, those with useless powers like turning water into wine, are called deuces. There are also a few Joker-Aces out there like Bloat (who is arguably the most powerful ace due to his reality manipulation and his incredible receiving telepathy) and in a different way The Sleeper (who is the best example of a wild carder, with the potential to be more powerful than The Turtle or The Bloat, depending on what he wakes up as). I personally think The Great and Powerful Turtle is a textbook definition of badass -when Romeo thought Juliet had died, what did he do? He killed himself like a wimp. What did The Turtle do when he thought his lover Legion had died? He dumped the Hudson River on Ellis Island.

Name: Lauren Fletcher
Alias: Typhoid Lauren Rapture: Lauren has a superhuman immune system, never being afflicted by any infectious disease or even cancer. This also means her immune system is never confused -organ transplants always work, even without medication and she is safe from autoimmune diseases. She can also spread the diseases her body has fought off to other people, with the exception of things generated by her own body, like cancer. She can give antibodies to anything she fought off to someone else suffering the condition, curing them. Side Effect: If she touches a human, normal or rapture, they are afflicted by her strain of the rapture virus. This is involuntary, so she must be careful not to touch anyone unaffected by her disease (as those already affected have immunity). If she touches a rapture she has not touched before, they lose their current mutation and gain a different one, although a few cases show her strain can add to the rapture and side effect. Side: None really, she just wants to live a normal life. However, she sees the government as a threat to this ideal and often gives agents sent to capture her the original rapture virus (it triggered the mutation, so she can infect others with it) or sometimes her own strain. This floods the agency hunting them with newly turned raptures.

Name: James Harrison
Rapture: James can give an object any power he can imagine, with certain limitations. Limits: Abilities need psionic energy emitted by raptures, so unless the item contains a crystal (which store this energy), the ability will only work around raptures. Side Effect: James has now immune system, but lives in a "bubble" where he commands specially-built robots from afar, some of which can use his power (through a crystal with a copy of his power too). Side: The Six. He is the weapon creator. The six are a team of people, with a well-known leader and weapon creator. Name: Harry Stevenson. Rapture: Harry has the power of mind control, with extreme amounts of power .He is also learning to manipulate them telekinetically. He was also "baptised" in secret by Jack Daniel, gaining the power to switch bodies (which lacks a side effect). Limits: Harry needs to acquire DNA from his target first (through contact, something they touched, etc), but from then on, he has power over them. He is also limited to those who he can see (cameras included). Side effect: Harry has veins which are visible through his skin. Side: Is the "leader" of The Six, but he is secretly plotting to use them to gain power. Empire: Harry owns a small business and leaders a large group of body switchers, most of whom follow due to respect, not his power (they would escape his ind control through swapping bodies). Nature of body swapping power: -Simply needs line of sight (doesn't work if blinded). -Often leaves target in a coma, possibly triggering the latent strain of the Rapture Virus (which remains dormant in the body until stressed, but does not overwrite other strains). -If used to jump into one body, then a second, then back to the first, the two targets have their bodies switched.

Oh well, I'm thinking of reviving this in a book series I may write. Note, I will only use my characters or characters whose creators let me. The disease is different: 1) It is a bacterium which reanimates the dead in two ways, by finding a corpse and saving the living: -If it finds a corpse, it reanimates them. -If it finds a living human being, it remains in their body until their death, when it will resurrect them in the same way (but usually in less time). 2) Symptoms: -Reanimation: It can bring them back to life by replacing dead body cells with itself. However,, this is a once-off unless it is part of the power. -Power: The bacterium can provide a power for itself. -Mutation: There is a physical mutation in al cases, but it may not be visible and may be beneficial -i.e. one character may have a varient of Ability Imbuing, but be cursed with a body which does not age (stuck in the body of 16 yr old) and has an excessively fast metabolism (he struggles not to waste away). -Perfect memory: Upon death, the bacterium stores the final memories and skills (including those which need to be practiced to be recalled) onto a special patch of DNA which the body can read, so they keep those memories for eternity (though can suppress them with practice). However, reanimated corpses lack all memory and skills, often making them mindless abominations until they learn.
