I want to avoid "Authentic" mythical beings. Breathe some new life into them, rather than just having them all be the same old same old.

I think you said that they were artists, and I've always imagined them with love for spicy food for some reason.

Are you and I looking at the same RP?
Who, but me, is actually trying to be authentic to the generic description of the originals? Dryad's Incubi/Succubi are not seducers. Her vampires can manipulate blood. Phi's Djinni possess only acquired magical affinity. Your Dwarves live above ground, and almost none are crafters. I may be wrong, but I don't see it.

Yeah...if I do that, the change will be very, very subtle.
Very.

They make things. It's a drive in their psyche to create, to make. They are Herbalists, Armorers, Carpenters, Sculptors, Composers, Chefs, Weavers. They spend their entire lifetime honing their chosen skills. The oldest among them are masters of their profession. They love their callings with a ferocity that does not wither to the passing of time, or the advance of age. It is their life. They love music, love art and love fancy foods. They're tough, short and stubborn. Resistant to diseases of the mind and body. However, some become misers, hoarding their talents and creations. They keep them from the world, locked away so that only they may see and own it. They can become corrupted by greed and avarice. They can become stagnant, working against the winds of change. When they use magic, it is to aid their skills. To smith swords from hardened fire or spin moonlight into a cloak. They make masterpieces. Above all, they aren't the same. I just want this to be a unique world. If to much is brought over from various mythos without giving it the personal stamp of this world, it'll just be a mish-mash of ancient culture...

There's nothing wrong with the variation.
You just said that mythos were too close to the originals, and I begged to differ.

Because. The originals are awesome. Which is why they were thought of first.
If I want variety, I will create new creatures altogether, rather than build off existing species/races. And I plan to do just that in the future.

Ah..
I prefer to take something and make it different, portray it in a new light. By the way, what are you Elves based on? They don't at all seem to remind me of álfar.

Well the Djinn and the other race I plan to make along side them shouldn't be too similar to any myths I don't think.
Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. |

Yep, knockout blow and surrounded. I'm waiting for Wulf so I can get a statement from the Boquabians before I wake them up.

My elves are actually not based on the original Norse myth, primarily because I haven't had the time to read through enough of it to portray them properly.
I'm winging it, until I get my hands on some more elfin references. So yeah, changes I make will be subtle, like the ones I made for the elves. Which I'm sure only you caught.

It would be nice if the actual culture behind various races was defined more...
“She'd become a governess. It was one of the few jobs a known lady could do. And she'd taken to it well. She'd sworn that if she did indeed ever find herself dancing on rooftops with chimney sweeps she'd beat herself to death with her own umbrella.”

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure Norse culture in general might be a fair indicator.

lföðr orkar, álfar skilja, vanir vita
The Allfather has Power, the Alfar have Skill and the Vanir have Knowledge. What kind of Skill is the question... Not to mention various other powers apparently attributed to them, such as shapeshifting, passing through solid objects, Elf-Shot.. They were ruled by Frey, so it's obvious they'd have some kind of fertility powers (Which may explain the Inhuman Beauty thing) and possibly healing. Since Frey was of the Vanir, magic is always an option. Of course, you'd be using the Light Elves, since the other ones were almost certainly just Dwarves.

This I knew. This is what I was worried about. And it has been concluded by many that the Ljosalfar had fertility based powers. Hence, I go with magic. Because shapeshifting, healing, intangibility, etc seems to kinda fall under that category anyhow. And the magic is naturally attuned to the fertility and the elements/nature.

Ok, Zale. Giving you the opportunity to define a Dwarf glass artisan, since Suna's going to visit him/her to comment on their skill.
