You could always go scouring the Characters thread.
 If I were you, I'd mix and match the character descriptions to get people you find exciting and useful to the story. Or even take entire descriptions. There's bound to be a power or a backstory there you'll like.

Or you could give them really powerful abilities but make them so inept it doesn't matter.
