Like redirecting the power in the magic item. This could cause the magic item to turn off, malfunction, be more efficient, or redirect how the spirit's energy is utilized. He probably couldn't turn an Ice magic item into a fire one, but he could change how the fire one uses fire.
Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. |
Yeah, that's basically what I was thinking. It works.

I'll probably have him have more tools with different effects, but they would all generally manipulate in the way above, just that each would be for a different purpose.

They would be focuses for safely extending his own aura into the item. It would be more like animal handling than anything.

So, a type of shaping art?
A Thorlandian?
“She'd become a governess. It was one of the few jobs a known lady could do. And she'd taken to it well. She'd sworn that if she did indeed ever find herself dancing on rooftops with chimney sweeps she'd beat herself to death with her own umbrella.”

Sort of, except applied to Spiritforged objects instead of people. Calms it down to reasonable levels, piss it off to increase energy output, fix it when it starts to break.
I'd never actually considered this until Phi brought it up. See, this is already helping. He doesn't necessarily have to be from Thorland, everywhere would need people like him.

So would his tools have Spirits in them as well? Or would he use his Aura only? Could he have a taser like device that shorts out a spirit item temporarily? Well I think I'll decide where he is from when I know more of where everyone else is going to be.

No, they'd be a focus for your own if you wanted to modify the way the device acts.

So, I've settled on a skeletal plot based on the Island of Gamblers Den In the Kiddo Free states. It's large, vibrant, fits with both characters I have so far, and it's prominent enough that many different types of person would either live and work or want to come there.
Now, I need names, back stories, goals, origins, and exactly what your character can do.

So being a tinker, what kind of work expectations should I have on whatever island we are starting on, that would affect my character a lot.

Would you like for me to reiterate the details?

Well, that depends. On Gamblers den, the most important thing is maintaining all the luxury. Heated pools, hot and cold running water, Mannikin servants. The place is Dubai meets Las Vegas. Of course, the most important bit is maintaining the lights. In this thread, please. Along with the things I listed.

Toothy* the Changeling Gladiator
A youngish lad with a childlike personality, he was sold away early in his life because his parents couldn't deal with him. After a few years, he ended up being sold into being a gladiator. Initially placed in the ring because, everyone likes to watch a freak bite the dust, he proved himself to be much more threatening than he seemed. After a year and a half of training, he proves to be a.. decent gladiator. Despite him being easily distracted and prone to slaughtering his opponent far to quickly. He remains a somewhat harmless kid, despite the wanton murder. Just don't hit him, because he hits back. Hard. Toothy is a short, scrawny boy with vivid apple-red hair and eyes. His skin is carries a tint of the native islander's coppery shade, and his hands are leathery things. Each finger is covered in a long and sharp looking claw, restricting him from bending all but the joint where his fingers meet his hand. This, of course, makes him rather clumsy at times. His toes have similar, thought somewhat smaller, talons. A speedy bugger with good reflexes, Toothy can become a whirling death-top of claws and talons if provoked. It's not for nothing that his spirit is called a Spinning Flenser. *He doesn't quite recall his old name. That, and I'm uncertain of the proper naming conventions for this part of your world.

Alright, well if he is going to be working in a gambling place, lets make him in debt. Bad luck sort of guy who lost all his money and now has to work for the place, fixing things up to pay them back. Intelligent if you ignore his gambling habits to the point where the place has taken to keeping him him in debt to make sure he stays working for them.

So, good? Really Good? And money troubles, oh lord! I already had an idea about how to rope your character into the plot, and this just synchs up perfectly with it.

I haven't put much thought into naming conventions, but then again I'm not very good at meaningful names.

"I dunno. Nobody's ever asked me what I want before."
"I.. guess I want.. I once heard these stories about Kiddo and how he saw all these neat places far away.. I wish I could see some of them, but I can't 'cause I'm owned."
