Happy Anzac day, all you SPL Aussies and Kiwis!  Any day that commemorates fallen service men should be honored, regardless of nationality.

As I am now replying with the experience of sleep, I should have phrased that differently. ANZAC Day is a day in which we remember the thousands who died in World War 1. I'm not sure wishing someone a happy day of that nature is appropriate.

I made the mistake of assuming that America's analogue (Memorial Day) would be celebrated the same way in Australia/New Zealand.  Although, it is a day to remember the fallen, it's usually accented with days off from work, parties, barbecues, and celebratory events.  I'll own up to a little cross-cultural ignorance on my part.

I have the utmost and deepest respect for military pesonnel, particularly those who gave their lives in their service.  I am mortified for offending anyone in this subject and I appreciate your enlightening us with your perspective, Myself.

Mind you, my sister did celebrate her birthday yesterday, so it is not ALL badly worded.

Wulf, please understand how much I respect you, your intellectual creativity, your commitment to purity within the nerd subculture, and your prodigious aptitude for putting pen to paper (or fingertip to keyboard) to articulate the subconscious musings that occur within most of us.  

To be blunt,  WATCH THE FRICKIN' STAR WARS SERIES ALREADY!!!!  You should de-prioritize Dr. Who, Firefly, and any other well-intentioned sci-fi/fantasy series that ISN'T Star Wars (keep in mind that I am a browncoat and a Dune fanboy of the old order) in order to consume these critical pinings of the "muse of the geek".

 As it turns out, I'm something of a procrastinator.

No worries, though, it actually has moved way up on my list of things to watch. I intend to get on it ASAP.

Good to hear it, Wulf.  You'd definitely be better served having the knowledge of it within your wheelhouse.  Even though it has suffered the trials of modern scrutiny, and pop culture critics, it remains a cornerstone of geek lore.  Star Wars canon still heads the tide of sci-fi/fantsy and preserves the foundation of "all things Lucas" for those of us who subscribe to a simpler, more non nuanced account of good vs. evil.

 Well, despite never having seen the movies, I AM aware of at least one saying by the sage Yoda: "Do or do not. There is no try."

I will be sure to bear that in mind, as I queue up my Star Wars watching binge.

I've been saying for a while you should watch Star Wars and Firefly (and Leverage).

While you don't necessarily have to de-prioritize Firefly (it's also awesome and once you start, you can't stop), I second the de-prioritization of Dr Who.
I should be the one who should really start watching that show but at least I'm aware of many aspect of that show

Yeah, from what I can gather, I thought the same thing.
Didn't wanna say he should take a break from it and watch the other stuff first, since what goes around, comes around. He can then tell me to stop watching my current list and start watching Dr Who.
But if he's almost up to speed, he could also finish and then take Smack's and my suggestions.

I've polished off every episode of New Who. I just have the old episodes to tackle.

And as for the Star Wars series, I'm aware of a few things here and there, my only problem is the stuff in between to connect the dots.
