We got over a spur of hot weather a month or two ago. It went above 40 for several days.

If you guys went by Fahrenheit instead of Celsius, the numbers might more accurately describe your feelings about the heat. Cause, for a second, I was thinking 40° would make me miserably cold. I really do think somewhere near 90s or 100s would seem more correct to describe the discomfort of a really hot day.

Summery.
Isn't fall beginning over there?

Yes. Although we call it Autumn.
I figures my use of Celsius would confuse people. I just couldn't be bothered converting it.

You do know that the metric system is used more right?

This is why I tend to convert things to metric, rather than ask people to do the other way around.

Of course I know.
Only thing is that 40 sounds more innocuous than 100-something. I use the metric system when time calls for it, but in everyday reference, that 100 much more suits my feelings of the day's discomfort level...

I know, but on this site the majority of people are American, so I usually provide the same measurement in Imperial measurements as well as metric; I just couldn't be bothered that time.

Much as America isn't known for the absolute best in terms of...well, anything, other than violence and trends of contagious stupidity--the Fahrenheit measurement system is one of the few things I think we do right.
Not so much as mathematical precision, but in terms of how the heck it feels.

Well, that's because you grew up with it.
Metric is beautiful in it's clarity. There's a thousand meters in a kilometer. Can you tell me off the top of your head how many feet are in a mile? Of course, that's slightly different than Celsius.

5280 if I remember correctly
I had to use a conversion like that on a test recently
Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. |

I remember 5280, from years ago when I watched Remember the Titans.
Though, again, I'm not referring to its precision. For precision, of course the metric system is superior. It just doesn't match my Complaint Index. I want to look around and say, "CURSE THIS 100-DEGREE WEATHER!". Complaining about 37 for its heat kinda sounds wimpy.

I remember invoking shock from a girl I was playing a mmo with.
She was from.. the Netherlands, possibly? I told her it was over a hundred degrees where I was. It's what?!

Not in Australia; we simply consider it a higher temperature. Besides, this way when we hear about organisms surviving at 100 degrees it's much more impressive. The scary thing is that I live in a cold part of Australia; Whaliens123 would get much more hot weather.

Regardless of what you grew up with, I get why the Fahrenheit degrees "feels" like a better choice.
It's because the range of Fahrenheit is bigger compared to Celcius. That makes it easier to say things like "it's about fifthy-ish outside" when you're using Fahrenheit. You can't really -ish a Celcius range as you'd be talking about a bigger difference feeling-wise .
