whatever happens I've ready for it. I need a distraction from sitting around waiting for finals to happen.

My last final, and bit of complication, will be over by Tuesday.\\

While I can promise a modicum of attention over today and tomorrow, Monday may be a busy day for me.

Same here. Last final on Tuesday (already studied), but an art critique session on Thursday. I'm just bidding my time until then by finishing my Pen and Ink project and generally being bored.

My last final is on Monday, but I have some people who I may not see again that I'll want to spend time with on Monday.

Since my exam is at, like, five in the afternoon due to weird class times.

The main reason I wanted to change things is because this rule system seems unnecessarily rigid and clunky.

I feel a more fluid possibility lies somewhere.

Fluid? I purpose built my character so that his weird powers flowed into one another. I can't think of a better way to represent "developing weird powers from space."

Perhaps that's not the right word.

I feel that what we're currently working with doesn't really fully cover everything a character can do.

Part of me wants to be able to state that a character is good at X,Y and Z; They also have a few powers/abilities/tricks that are A,B and C.

Like a Thief character might be good a Stealin', Steathn' and Breakin' Inta Places.

Time and experience has taught them a few tricks, like how to disguise themselves with commonly found items and clothing. Or how to use stealth to hit somewhere for massive ouchies.

Or, at really high levels, how to do incredible things, like steal the breath from a foe.

Yeah, a range of abilities growing from current abilities. As apposed to the sort of gridish structure that is current.

Maybe natural is the word.

Now, how can we achieve this?

I never viewed the original version as listing only what the character was capable of. I saw each level as adding additional capabilities while the skills and uses for those abilities were implied.

Like for my potion summoner, one level he might gain the capability to use new types of potions but he would also gain the capability to use those potions in several ways along with whatever he could do with his knowledge and strength.

That was strictly forbidden by the original rules.

That's the way I saw it to, with the added bonus of recovering bit's of his memory to justify how he'd get things he should already know.

Which part was the problem with Jester's?

I was just thinking that the levels represented new attributes added to the character, instead of abilities that had X range and Y damage. Something a little more flexible than only gaining one very specific instance of an ability and something less than being completely free range since it still has to make sense for whatever class your building.

To me it sounds like what you were trying to go for without having to replace all the abilities.

Okay, I had another concept I'd like to play. While on vacation on their personal airship a wealthy gnome noble family crashes on a distant mountain. The only survivor: the family's six year old son and rightful heir, Banjo Joachim. After wandering the frigid mountain for a week, he discovers a mysterious temple and is rescued by a group of warrior monks who, without informing the abbot, take the boy in to feed and care for him. However they are discovered by the abbot before they can send the boy down the mountain. The scriptures state that no one may may leave this temple until they have mastered a deadly martial art that is totally not Hokuto Shinken with the serial numbers filed off. As punishment for bringing him in he labels the three monks, who are merely students themselves, as his teachers and states that on the day of his eighteenth birthday he will be tested. If he fails, he will die, and the three students will have their fists sealed and be banished from the temple.

Surprising everyone, the little gnome passes the trial and is allowed to leave the monastery to pursue his training as he sees fit. His three teachers, now masters themselves, wish him well on his journey.

When he gets home he finds his home dissolved by the other noble families and his inheritance split amongst them. He takes the matter up with them, some people die, and he becomes a wanted fugitive, selling his fists to survive. It's been quite lucrative, but he always spends the money he makes on some bit of finery and is thus perpetually wandering and looking for work.

Joachim enjoys wearing expensive things, something that his teachers were never quite able to beat out of him, and eating gourmand food. He dresses in the most gaudy, flashy way possible with lots of jewelry and rich colors and seems to pose almost subconsciously, even when just standing around. For personality his major inspiration is Tom Haverford from Parks and Recreations.
