Alright I'm ready to end this.
Zaleramancer@: Exactly what do you think would happen if an army of the past, composed of histories most notable figures and armies, suddenly came to the modern world, with the intent to take over the planet. |

Because I'm stubborn.

All you know, all the guns and drones and nukes.
Not to mention the fact that the sort of know more about them than they do about us.

At what point would we begin firing our guns drones and nukes at them.
|

When they started to try over the world.
All ignore the causality errors that this would cause.

Consider this, At what point after their arrival would they attempt to conquer the world.
|
If you're trying to insinuate that they'd take the time to get drones and nuke of their own I must ask: how are they going to get the money, the components, and the technological know how to build them?
Hey son, wanna' learn how ta' make witch balls?

The only way I could see the less advanced folks getting the upper hand over the inhabitants of the modern era, is if they sabotaged their tech somehow, or managed to commandeer some of the modern tech by some underhanded means.
Like, say, if the magic of ancient times was real.

You're jumping a bit ahead but fine.
Libraries, an incredible wealth of current information with free access to the internet. Money could be acquired through having any of the many, many, many scientists, chemists, engineers, philosophers, and mathematicians simply patenting an idea which utilizes current day technology. the components to make pretty much anything can be found in a landfill rather easily, otherwise they could simply walk into a store and buy them, and if you wish to argue money yet again, I could simply point out the various beggars on every street corner that collect money and function as a phenomenal surveillance system, or they could simply ask given that many military minds of the past are revered as heroes. And no they would not use nukes. Nukes are used to destroy worlds, not conquer them, any place that you bomb becomes irradiated and useless, it's much easier to infiltrate and assimilate the populace, and you still get the land afterwards. |

And there's some in that list who I definitely don't see getting any technology or magic, much less sabotaging said tech. After all, wasn't Hercules said to have been fairly stupid?
Don't forget that any Japanese or Chinese people in the list from before the 1800's or so completely rejected all other civilizations' influence, so they wouldn't be included in the factoring. As well, anyone who is written about in multiple history text books as conquerors or usurpers wouldn't be trusted... likely at all.

Perhaps it was but I'm going on the assumption that it was mostly myth.
Although I was just reminded of an interesting thought. Shadow, what do you think would happen if Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln suddenly stepped out of a flash of light, and proclaimed that the state of America had become so devastated that they literally came back from death in order to fix it. |

And just as many of those grand military minds are also regarded as being villains (Napoleon, Genghis Khan). Anyone who is revered as a hero in one spot may be regarded as a villain in another. Plus, if someone walked up and said that they were the reincarnation of say, George Washington or Attila the Hun, how many people/corporations would take them seriously?
Even the internet requires some idea of what you're looking for AND the ability to read what's in a book. Somehow I doubt that many people from history can read. There have been times of flourishing civilization but those are fairly rare and most people in history don't read much less speak any of our modern languages. Language evolves and changes with the culture. If you don't understand the culture, then you can't truly learn the language.

Heracles might not have been the brightest bulb in the lamp, but perhaps he'd be smart enough to step aside, and let the smart folks handle their range of expertise.
Where he falls short, Daedalus and Odysseus would certainly pic up the slack.

Part of me thinks that the nation would be happy to the point of fanboyish giddiness to have them back.

True, Daedalus might be able to work things out... and that's assuming that he manages to learn any language that he might need to know. There are, after all, several different programming languages that people could use for machines and the like.
I'd assume Daedalus could figure out a machine gun and the idea behind it... Actually making one is the difficult part.

People would start screaming about witchcraft and they'd all probably be arrested.
I very much doubt anyone, as admiring of them as we are, would listen to the advice of someone who's been dead since before WWI. They'd be so out of touch with our current value systems it wouldn't even be funny.

It's not just knowledge: It's infrastructure. I doubt anyone flung nearly five hundred years into the future will be in any condition to subtly try to gain enough power to construct military machines without anyone noticing.
You can't easily do that even if you're native to this time- let alone if you're from the time when people thought everything was made of fire.

Agreed. The world has changed too much for them to truly comprehend its issues if they actually did return from the dead.
