Yeah, I can understand that you didn't remember its capabilities from before the upgrade. It was pretty wimpy. I'm WAY happy with this final version.
And on that note, the backlash aspect is something I particularly like. As an action, the user can target the part of the foe's mind where they express the hope for bad things to the user. Then, the user can actually manipulate the psychic energy generated by that hope, and backfire it within the foe's mind, resulting in mental and physical pain.
In essence, it's a perfectly targeted psychic anti-enemy attack--only foes will hope for your failure or downfall, and so only foes will be affected by the anti-negative-hope backlash.
Hopefully, that's not too pseudoscientifically jargon-y...
