And how is that any different than what I said in the past?

Or does that opinion just not apply to the Romans, due to some imperceptible higher moral standard?

The Neo-Romans (Or whatever) I'm imagining would hardly hold the higher moral standard.

They'd be arrogant bastards with who care for nothing about anyone who is not a Roman citizen (Read, most of the world under their control).

The main reason for their fasicnation with robotics would be that some of the higher ranking Romans enjoyed the idea of having beings created for no more reason than to serve them. Robots replaced slaves as the status symbol of choice. Blatantly obviously robotic servants were a popular thing, even to the point of some Romans becoming cyborgs.

Then Caesar and some of the noble class began to grow nostalgic for the past of Rome. A new movement began and Roman society moved backwards. However, few were willing to give up their toys. So rather than abandon their technology, they changed it. Robots were retooled to appear, and act, like humans or figures from Roman mythology. Personal slaves began to become common as things for callous nobles to display in order to show how they conformed to societal norms. Obvious mechanical alterations became socially unacceptable, so they were altered to be subtle. Nano-healing machines in the blood stream, communication circuitry in the brain, sensory enhancements to allow for infrared vision and sonar..

Fascinating...

I suppose your way of imagining the Romans is kinda fun...

That's the point. I'm doing this to make cool things.

It's also ripe for so many different plots.

Rebel against our evil oppressors..

Noble finds out what their idyllic lifestyle costs others..

The complex shuffle of politics as a begin faction attempts to abolish slavery and other ills..

That is exactly what I made this thread for.

I also made this thread so we can discuss each others opinions and ideas about the topic also.

Sorry if I sounded like a jerk or a snob.

I was basicly trying to point out something and I overexplained things and ended up sounding like a snob.

I am very sorry that was not my intention.

I haven't paid much attention to this thread so far, since I'm no much of an intellectual when it comes to ancient cultures. However, I do believe technology would be much further along if they had survived for longer.

 *Sigh*

It's fine. Honestly. I took into account your autism, and so it didn't really bother me so much how you came across. I just wish you would have made it more clear from the start the intention of the thread.

I thought we were actually discussing what we thought would have happened, if not for the fall of Ancient Rome.

BUT...that has all been cleared up, and I hope you have no hard feelings, because I have none.

I have no hard feelings either.

I have a unfortunate knack for being unclear so I end up acedently causing multiple misunderstandings.

So I have learned to forgive people when the misunderstandings are resolved.

So no hard feelings.

But, yeah, this is a very interesting idea...I'll continue to think it over.

I disagree. You seem to believe they would not change at all and you miss out on important information:
1) Christianity would be dominant, since Christianity became the dominant religion before Rome fell.
2) There would be no "witchcraft". They would have grown used to the technology as our predecessors did.
3) Slavery would have ended already. America was not the first nation to outlaw slavery and the Romans would have absorbed many cultures (i.e. Egyptian culture) which eventually would have stopped such treatment of common man.
4) Democracy could well have become mainstream, due to absorbed features from Greece. However, it would likely still be controlled by the Caesar to some extent.

In general, the world would be little different. However, there are exceptions to every rule:
1) The world would be much more peaceful due to a single ruler.
2) We may be on other planets, due to the push from the Romans to colonize other worlds.
3) World hunger would be eliminated due to the world being a global nation.
4) The language of the world (i.e. the common language) would be a variant of Latin.
5) Scientific language would be different to the one we know.
6) English would have a few differences, but not many.

There would be more similarities and differences, but these are the first few.
Bow before your unimaginably powerful overlord!

Wait a minute, I'm currently too busy holding a cork in mid air for petty groveling.

It's not for actual consideration...it's an imaginary exercise.

I rather dislike imagination exercises disguised cleverly as actual debates...

(Inner thought: He feels dumb for not understanding it was an imagination exercise from the get-go )

Re: What if the Roman Empire never fell?

jester_of_god
....hmmmm, due to the dark ages never occurring due to hundreds of years of scientific repression, we could assume that the technologies we have today would be present thousands of years ago. Due to the actual diversity allowed by the romans and the greeks during that time eventually they would have most likely developed some way for the different races and religions to live in a majoritive piece. Of course there would be several periods of wars while the society continually tried to expand though.  If Rome never fell period, what you'd basically have is it eventually taking over the world, leading to one of two results. Basically they fall into mental and physical atrophy reverting into cave men due to lack of competition or apparent danger, or they continued to advance into a Utopian society most likely until some giant disaster wiped them out, most likely caused by their own scientific research....even more likely however is a situation similiar to idiocracy.
