Our bones have soft-gooey centers. Y'know, marrow?

It makes blood cells.

So loosing that wouldn't reduce structural integrity that much. We'd probably have to develop a way for our blood cells to reproduce without marrow though.

What about naturally-occurring lightweight, strong fibres?

A stiff equivalent of silk, for instance, could easily reinforce bones, allowing mass to be removed.

It's possible.

We'd still have awfully big chest muscles for wings to work.

So, this is for all sorts of strange 'what-if' situations, right?

Anybody have any more they want to contemplate?
