Well, I'm sorry to insult you, that's not my intention, but the two of you (you and Zale) are trying to make my opinion out to be wrong (which you don't know for sure is wrong), and so my intention is to show you that I don't have to accept your explanation either. You two are trying to limit what I perceive as a limitless universe. If there is only one way to achieve Umbrakinesis, or any ability, then that means that my worldview on the metaphysical is wrong. And I don't think that's the case.
Neither of us knows for a fact what is true or untrue about the realm of the metaphysical.

And what if they were to display a superhuman capability that was physically viable (as in, easily discernible as not a coincidence or the product of a deluded mind)?

I have absolutely no idea. If they could show me an anatomy chart of one, I would be more than happy to see for myself.

When did I ever say anything to that effect. I never said anything was impossible or possible...I just stated my opinion on how I THINK powers SHOULD function in my own mind.

Photons are massless.
They are are simply a result of the fact that light can behave like a particle and a wave. A packet of electromagnetic energy that mimics physical properties.

So, how exactly would you base any superpower on fact? How, unless you had the personal scientific knowledge, or read the research of someone who did, would you know whether or not superpowers were possible? Tesla's inventions, Einstein's theories, Hawking's research would not even be considered viable science until they had been tested. And so, what, we wait until we hear that somebody has learned how to bend light, in order to become invisible, to even consider it a cool or interesting power? No. I am perfectly fine in my theories and hypotheses, because right now, theories on MOST powers are just that: theories. Not proven. I don't have to be right, and I don't have to know all the answers, nor do I want all the answers. I don't need to know the formulas and math behind a superpower. If somebody says they have one, all I would do is say, 'Prove it'.

You realize I said BASED on fact right. They don't have to be completely rooted in fact and science, just based on a widely know fact so as to lend creditability to it.

That sounds contradictory. Is their existence the result of their ability to behave as a wave or an atom, or is their ability to behave like a wave or an atom the result of their composition? And anyway, Einstein's theory of relativity implies that energy is a state of matter, and thus energy does have mass. So, all you have to do is find an inverse to that, similar to antimatter. The properties of normal photons, reversed. If that particle or wave, in itself, does not act as a synthetic darkness, then the two particles/waves would still cancel one another out, resulting in true darkness. Or, you could slow the light 'energy packet' down to nearly nothing, and thus cause it to produce less and less light until there is only darkness.

Like pretty much any character from "Alphas" their abilities are probably impossible in the real world, but each one is based on something that we know to be a fact or at least a plausible theory.
Like Super strength through the control of the Adrenal Gland. Or the ability to secrete a liquid that is combustible while under stress. or Hypersensitivity

I would find that very interesting, especially the mechanics of it.

How dare I? How dare I what? Oh, please do elaborate, I would LOVE to know where YOU find insult in all this madness.

Pointless argument is become more pointless over time
1. No superpower is going to work under any current knowledge that we have available to us, that is why they are superpowers. 2. Using real science facts can improve the quality of a superpower and lend to the suspension of disbelieve. 3. Trying to envision and create models for the functionality of superpowers greatly extends the range of what can be possibly imagined and worked with. 4. If you're going to have a discussion, don't get so worked up about it! (This post is in reply to Wulf but he isn't the only one I'm talking to)
Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. |

You dare say that I limit the universe.
Science increases the wonder of the universe!
