I appreciate the help while I was otherwise occupied (sleeping), Zale. I rather like the summary you gave; it's pretty close to what I imagined for society.

Just three things:

1. The Australis Event, I think the original RPers and I had decided that the Australis Event took place 15 years ago, December 21, 2012. That would make the current year 2027.

2. The superhuman population is very high. They make up 20% of the people in the world. However, 20% of the GLOBAL 20% of superhumans actually have active superpowers. The other 80% of supers have either latent, developing or "lame" superpowers (holding  breath indefinitely, communicating with slugs, Fiery Form with no immunity to fire, etc).

3. The slowest moving thread is for Cancun, Mexico. And even this one, I'm getting ready to speed up a bit. I had an excellent spark of inspiration today, so hopefully, things will get more exciting today.

So, I've got an idea for a character. Tell me if this sounds overpowered.

His power takes the form of a book. By "scanning" things with it (Touching a page to them) a page for that item or person appears in the book, along with a list of it's traits. For example, a rock might have the hard trait, a dog will have the energetic trait, a person might have the ill trait. Most things just show up as a generic thing in the book, but each individual person get's there own page.

What he can do with this is threefold.

1. He can produce a copy of any generic thing in the book, one at a time, as many as he wants. These things are not the true items, but the platonic ideas of them. For example, if he scans a sword the weapon he pulls out of the book won't be that sword. The sword he scanned was a bunch of ore pounded into the shape of a sword. What he gets is The Sword, capital letters, the idea of the weapon. Same goes with anything but humans. A dog will be the most Dog, a mango will be the mangoist Mango.

2. He can mix and match traits to get different things. For example, say he added the "stone" trait to The Dog. The Dog he pulls out will be made of stone. Since The Dog is an idea instead of a living being, this doesn't kill it. The Dog will still be The Dog, it's just now The Dog is made of stone.

3. He can swap around the traits of the people he scans into the book. For example, taking the "wealthy" trait and adding it to a beggar. The beggar will come into a large sum of money. Take the "ill" trait out of a cancer patient, an they'll get better. Take Justice out of a police officer, and he'll become corrupt. Add it to a mob boss, and the man is now a model citizen.

Mitigating factors to the power include:

1. He has to sit down and take the time to edit the book. He can't just scan someone who's attacking him, take away everything that makes them strong, tear their personality apart, give them rickets, and then set them on fire in the middle of a fight.

2. He has to actually scan something for him to be able to edit it. This, as I said, involves opening the book and touching it to them.

3. He can't add or take away traits, only swap them around. That ill he took off the cancer patient has to be put on someone else.

4. Try as he might, he just can't seem to find the "Alive" and "Dead" traits. If they even exist, he hasn't discovered them yet.

So he just scans things, or do they get sucked into the book?

If he just scans things, does that mean editing the scan will edit the real person no matter the condition they are in?

What happens if he adds terms with contradicting attributes such as adding feather and stone to a dog?

And don't worry, it's not OP. We have far more powerful folks running around in this RP. The Artist (Adam Bradley Jacobs) has the power to realize any drawing, painting or sketch he does. Read the story and see how he uses it. And the new Overlady of Indiana (Project M.A.I.D.E.N., who goes by "Maiden") can bend reality within 15 ft of herself.

So long as you stay within your bounds (not serving as a deus ex machina, etc, which I doubt you will have a problem with) you should be just fine. In fact, I think it'd be a fun addition to the story.

Just read the story, and find out what niche you think he will fit into. Truth be told, with me as currently the sole narrator, everything is moving pretty stinkin' slow.

Yes, editing a person will change them no matter what.

That would make a stone dog that had feathers. If you add two contradictory traits to someone, the usually cancel one another out.

As much as I appreciate your considerateness in asking permission, I actually invite your contributions. Even encourage them! I've been trying to tell folks that, all along. These folks are secondary characters until further notice, so feel free to make use of them as you see fit.

Even the main characters may be commandeered. Just try to keep them in character if you venture to do so (refer to their character profiles, if you must); and don't kill anyone (or otherwise introduce to them any dramatic life changes) unless it's approved or decided upon. Otherwise, fights, arguments, power use, mentions of the Evolutionist's Stone? Perfectly within your rights.

And if you're not comfortable with exactly what you want to do, then we can discuss the progression of the Evolutionist's Stone in the RP Comments thread.
