Alright so the first day will start with a large lesson in which the new students will be given the chance to preform a novice level spell from each school of magic. This serves as both an introduction to magic and as an assessment of both their mana potential and what school they are suited for.

This is probably the only time in which you will attempt magic from a different school and you will certainly fail at every speel that isn't in your school of magic.

Nice test. Could the student accidentally cast a novice level spell from their school of magic instead of the one they were trying to cast? E.G. Asoka/Ash tries to cast a storm spell and instead causes a fireball to appear.

That sounds plausible... after all the whole lesson is to determine which school you'll train in. As a side note. Y'all will be starting with no knowledge of any spells.
