Duh. I know we're not born with conscious knowledge of anything; but it doesn't negate the instincts we possess. In fact, when you're first born it's your first instinct try to reach your mother to breastfeed. Did you know that?

well I'm sorry but I'm one of those that fear the nothing more than anything else.and yes I am a christian, but still the very thought of just ceasing to exist....

Then who would care? It would just seem like an end to life, especially if we found ways to make it painless.

yes, I know that but you have to admit we have a limited range of instincts compared to most creatures. Also, when your mad at someone what is the first thought that comes to your head, but you don't do it, because you were taught not to, in an animal, they do it, that is instinct.

Kay, well, we're not discussing that now. We've already discussed before, and come to the conclusion between the two of us that the soul is immortal, yes? If so, then that's not really up for debate, because we know that oblivion is not an option. You go somewhere; the only question is where.

That's why I said that we should avoid further comment on that.

Humans are low on instincts. They get in the way of the things we're good at.


The only thing we really have is intelligence anyway. Tons of animals can physically overpower a human. None can outsmart us.

@Jester: What? Are you insane? Suicide, assisted or self-mediated, is worthy of damnation to the lowest pits of Hell. No one has the right to decide when they die. Attempting to take such drastic control of one's destiny is blasphemy, and the Hell that awaits them is going to be far worse than whatever they thought was worthy of them trying to kill themselves.

I was only saying that the spirit is immortal. Therefore, you don't just fade into oblivion. Your soul has to go somewhere, whether it's Heaven or Hell.

I believe in no Purgatory: once you've died, there's no going back and atoning for your sins or making up for them. Your chance to ask forgiveness is all during your LIFETIME. After that, you're stuck. I mean, even the Catholics agree that suicide is a death-sentence.

There was this book I read about this alien species. They were nearly totally non-violent. They didn't even have a word for war.

However, they were symbiotic to a degree. They would take over the nervous system of other species. They do this to humans, and humans fight back.

At one point, a semi-sympathetic alien comes upon a human lab where they had dissected some of her kind. She.. was.. very upset. It's the equivalent of walking into a place with blood everywhere and human body parts everywhere. The difference, is that she had never seen anything like that. Ever.  At all.Even we see horror movies or videos of war.


The aliens were kind of nice.. Weirdly. They were rather naive and cheerful, happy to help..
