Everyone has a certain number of points to build a character on (350 in our case).
Advantages and skills raise the point total, starting from 0.
So if you wanted the ton-lifting superstrength, It would raise your total to 160 out of 350.
If you wanted to free up some points, you could give your character a disadvantage. Like, say, Ham-Fisted (Bad motor skills). Disadvantages apply negative points. [-5] For the mild cases with this.
So your point total would go down, to 155 out of 350.
It's important to have advantages and skills, because what you see is what you get.
If you don't have Computer Operation as a skill, your character may not be able to properly utilize one.
If you don't have Piloting, your character won't know how to properly fly something. They could flail around and try, or attempt to apply knowledge from Driving to it, but not well..
“She'd become a governess. It was one of the few jobs a known lady could do. And she'd taken to it well. She'd sworn that if she did indeed ever find herself dancing on rooftops with chimney sweeps she'd beat herself to death with her own umbrella.”
