Anyway, I'm holding off on character creation until I manage to decide what I want the general setting to look like.

Personally I prefer the dark looking future cities to the clean, white and led-lights-everywhere future cities. That's just my two cents worth...

Earth would probably be composed of several sprawling metropolises by now. Severe overcrowding and food shortages.

Or Mars. It would be more of a slum, dirt poor.. It was the first planet that they tried to colonize. It didn't end well and there was a lot of money lost. Luckily, most people managed to survive.

We have other alien races and dimension hoppers as characters, I'm guessing we won't be going to other dimensions, but will there be a lot of other inhabited planets, lots of species to meet, Just mine and humans?

Hmm..

Well, I was hoping to stick with the solar system for the early part of the roleplay. Later on we may move on..

As for planets, Venus, Earth, The Moon and Mars are all more or less colonized. There's also the tons of satellite stations and free-floating space-wanderers..

As far as species, there's a ton of variety just with humans.  Most of humanity has at least been slightly altered genetically. Most of this is just small things, like some resistance to certain chronic illnesses and such.

There's also the changes made to ease colonization. Like most people living on Luna (The Moon) are gene tweaked so that they don't suffer as much physical degeneration as they normally would due to the low gravity. They're still a bit weaker (And freakishly tall) when compared to people from Earth or Venus.

As for aliens.. You may bump into a few if we start at a trade center type city (Which we may).

I'm assuming like most of the RPs we will be in a group eventually. We probably need a rule that we all stay on the same planet (or space station, etc.) and leave as a group to keep the story less confusing.
