The adventure for this RP is going to be mostly open world. I'm not going to railroad the plot and will simply provide opportunities and enemies. It will be up to you guys to decide what to do, where to go, and how to handle a situation if at all. Thoughts?

Also, I'm changing the backstory of the world a bit so stand by for that update.

Yeah, its not earth...but I've refrained from naming the planet until it becomes relevant. Though I;m open to suggestions.

Now I must contemplate.
“She'd become a governess. It was one of the few jobs a known lady could do. And she'd taken to it well. She'd sworn that if she did indeed ever find herself dancing on rooftops with chimney sweeps she'd beat herself to death with her own umbrella.”

A brief history...

The planet used to be a paradise, a veritable Garden of Eden. Vast forests, endless bodies of clear water and pure fresh air. It was a new hope for the first colonists who arrived from one of mankind’s outlying construction colonies. For years they lived of the bounty and treasures of the new world.

Then The War started.

Nobody remembers who through the first punch or why. Maybe it was over territory or control of resources. Either way, in the end it resulted in one of the longest and bloodiest wars in mankind’s history.  However, the colonists were not equipped with many traditional weapons and as the fighting progressed, they needed new ways to battle. The answer, modified construction lifters, big robotic beings intended for lifting and placing heavy loads. They were outfitted with weapons and soon the first battle mech was built.

After that, mech use escalated, it was the last resort in a worldwide war. Bigger, better models were designed as major corporations moved in and took sides. Every day, massive mechs collided in all out war for the lush planet. Unfortunately the war had a cost.

In the fires of war, the green of the new planet was burnt away, leaving nothing but sand and ash. Yet, the fighting continued. By then, nobody knew what they were fighting about, only that they had to. Decades passed and the war slowly died down, fading into memory. In the aftermath a new world rose, a lawless wasteland where corporations ruled with wealth and gangs ruled with fear.

Now Mechs are used for everything “law” enforcement to entertainment. The Most popular Mechs are those who have been entered in Gladiator type battles for the entertainment of the public. Most places that run such fights do so discretely, with the exception of Marvel City’s World Arena Deathmatch.

In more recent times a nameless corporation has built a massive wall around the Steel Nation, secluding it from the rest of the planet. This has lead to some uprisings.

Which place on that map is closest to a salvager or junker town, and what's it like?

Dune, Iron Den and Stonewell are all heavily influenced by salvagers and their work.

Dune is the most prominent Junker town, often called the Scrap Heap of the Steel nation. People say that if you're looking for a part, sooner or later it'll end up in Dune. The city itself is a lopsided mash-up of hastily repaired buildings, collapsed towers, junkyards and more body shops, part shops and traders than you can shake a stick at. It also has a booming drug industry.

Iron Den is a massive cylindrical City built in levels on top of itself. The cities levels streach high into the sky and deep into the ground. Salvaged and New parts can be found on every level though the higher you go the ritzier it gets and the lower you go the shadier it gets.

Stonewell was an old mining community that expanded into a bustling metropolis. Its also the dumping grounds for the rejected parts from Dune and Iron Den.

These are just brief summaries of the cities. I was planning on making far more detailed descriptions soon. Also, the cities marked on the map are only the biggest cities. There are tons of smaller towns and communities scattered about if you want to invent one for the RP.

An excellent choice, Sir. I'll be sure to post more info on the cities as I write it. I'll also be providing info on events and items of the world that will be common knowledge. I want anyone who participates to seems like their character was a part of this world before the RP and aren't just now stumbling into it.

It's almost a year late, but as promised...lore on the Cities of the Steel Nation

Dune:
Sometimes called The Scrap Heap of the Steel Nation, Dune is essentially one big Junkyard that became a city. Centered in the Sandrunner desert amongst the sandy dunes from which it draws its name, Dune began as a dumping ground for discarded mechs and scrap. Over the decades the piles of scrap, trash and mech parts grew as more and more mechs were disposed of until the now famous junk pile covered nearly 150 square miles of desert.  At that time it was a prime place for Salvagers to hunt. However, given the immense size of the place, it was easier for Salavgers to set up shop there. Soon, more and more Junkers, Salvagers and Scrap Merchants moved in, building homes and shops from the local “resources”. Now, Dune is more city than scrap heap, but its roots are still apparent. It is now the home of 9 separate and major junkyards, dozens of repair and customization shops, and hundreds of local traders. However, the population consists of many unsavory and criminal types who have grown a large network of drug producing and smuggling facilities.

City of Cloud:
The City of Cloud is probably the safest city in the Steel nation despite New Haven’s claims. The City of Cloud has earned a reputation of being a place where anyone can start over and live in peace. Or at least, that’s the rumor. What goes on in the City of Cloud is mostly a mystery to the general public because the City of Cloud is surrounded by a large wall from which people rarely exit. Mechs are not allowed in or even near the City of Cloud and as such, most people have never seen the city let alone entered it.

New Haven:
New haven is claimed to be the safest and most prosperous city in the Steel Nation. These claims are made by the Goliath Corporation, which owns most of the property in the city as well as the private law enforcement agency that polices the citizens. The reality is that New Haven is a safe place so long as you’re willing to submit to the heavy handed oppression of the Goliath Corporation. The Goliath Corporation dominates the city and enforces its own brand of justice, all the while pushing its products and services on the public. Despite all this, New Haven is actually a decent place to live compared to the rest of the Nation. The standard of living has greatly been improved by the Goliath Corporation and its one of leading producers of new Mechs and Mech parts. Salvagers have been known to stop in New Haven after a big score, to stay in one of the 9 five star hotels in the city. The Mayor of New Haven, also the president of the Goliath Corporation, is a public figure of charity and an active voice for the removal of violent Mech raiders in the Steel Nation. However, his methods are extreme.

Marvel City:
The gambling capital of the Steel Nation and number one tourist destination, Marvel City stands out amongst the other cities as a place of excitement, enjoyment, and fun.  Nearly 70% of the city is comprised of either hotels or casinos, with the biggest and most popular Casino being The Grand North. Run by wealthy businessman, Obadiah North, The Grand North is the center for both entertainment and commerce in Marvel City. It houses both a booming new Mech Shop as well as the arena for the Steel Nation’s premiere Mech Battle Tournament. Marvel city is also the biggest supplier of custom mods, mechs and AI’s thanks to the constant stream of odd strangers, freaks and weirdoes that call Marvel City home

Iron Den:
Iron Den is arguably the best place to find deals on mech, parts, mods and any other gear you want to get ahold of.  The City itself is a series of modular, cylinders stacked atop each other in a tower that stretches miles into the sky.  Each new floor is constructed on top of the old ones entered the city ever higher. Unfortunately, the sandy region makes for a poor foundation and many of the lower floors have sunk beneath the sands as the weight of the city presses down. The lowest floors have been abandoned and are dangerous to explore. It’s rumored that anything you need can be bought in Iron Den, the thousands of dealers, traders and hustlers there have a vast collection of goods for sale, but are also likely to rob you blind.

Cinnibar:
Advertised as a vacation resort styled Island, Cinnibar is a Capitol controlled city that’s pretty much the most relaxing looking prison you’ve ever seen. Enemies of the Capitol are sent there and never allowed to leave. Anyone can visit, but without a valid non-enemy ID, you can’t leave. The Capitol controls the only transports on and off the Island. Aside from the Captiol’s control of the island, it’s a fairly nice place to relax, or hide out.

City of Crow:
Rumored to be the last true pre-war city. Nobody has been able to reach it in decades thanks to the Capitol’s navy.

Sunder City:
Built at the base of The Wall, Sunder City is loyal to the Capitol. It’s a base of operation for the armed forces that desperately try to control the Steel Nation unsuccessfully.  It’s also the spot where most contraband is smuggled in, ironically. The whole city was meant to be run like a military base, but after decades of unsuccessful attempts to wrangle the other cities, the whole city has become far more relaxed. Officials still try to run everything smoothly, with varying degrees of success.

Stonewell:
Once a prosperous mining community, Stonewell has become a ugly place since the mine closed. It’s now a crime riddled stain that holds all the discarded rubbish and scrap from the other cities. Basically an extended slum, Stonewell is the least prosperous city. However, decent mech salvage winds up there from time to time, and probably the only reason the city still lives.

The Capitol:
The Capitol is the towering headquarters of the winners of the last war.  They seek to control the Steel Nation and reign in the anarchy there, but have remained unsuccessful for decades.  Many of the large corporations that build and sell mechs reside in the Capitol and undermine the Capitol’s actions with their greed by smuggling in and selling their Mechs to the Steel Nation.
