Its just an outline of the story, it doesn't actually change anything.

Now that finals are over I'm free to continue working on this project. As always, ideas of any kind are appreciated.

Here's the deal. I've had a story rattling around in my head for years. I never did anything with it, but recently its grabbed my attention. I want to do something with it. I know I have a habit of not finishing things and if I chased this idea it would mean putting off other works to do so. So I want your opinions on what I should do with it. Here goes...

The premise is essentially this:

In the year 2060 (or other distant year of approximation) the world finally burns through its last reserves of fossil fuels. To maintain their high need for energy the leaders of the world at the time turned to Nuclear power as a solution. Unfortunately as the demand for energy increased, more and more Nuclear power plants were needed to keep the world crackling with electricity. Construction of the power plants became rushed, haphazard and the results were devastating. Eventually, they melted down, saturating the surface of the earth with radiation. The human race moved underground, but not before suffering side-effects.

Nuclear power was outlawed and those who still trusted in its use were exiled to a remote corner of the globe. However, once again the world faced a lack of energy and needed a new source. They turned to many renewable options and began to debate. The debates grew heated and no one option was settled upon. Divided in their conviction of the different sources, they began to separate into factions that each used a sole source. Over the years their cultures began to reflect the source each had chosen and as the radiation seeped in the ground, they began to change physically as well. The different factions occupy different levels and locations throughout the now extensive network of caverns and underground cities under the surface. Some also live on or above the surface.

Stories circulates among the people of a source more powerful than any other. It was rumored to have been created to run clean and near perfectly efficient.  Dubbed the True Source, the mysterious power was lost to the surface during the fallout. The main plot would revolve around the True Source and possibly from a main character finding it or seeking it out.

The main factions are as follows (now all of them have stuff yet)

Geothermal- "The Thermophages": Living deeper underground than any other faction, the Thermophages have adapted all their technology to run on geothermal energy collected from the many thermal well that dot their cities. the Thermophages have mutated to live in the scalding conditions deep below the crust. Their blood boils like molten lava and they've been able to use it as a heated source of energy for portable gadgets and weapons.

Wind - "The Breeze Riders" and "Sky Pirates":

Solar - "Prophets" and "Sifters"

Hydroelectric

Coal

Electromagnetism

I eagerly anticipate its development. It's an interesting concept for sure.

Also, if you have any thoughts I;d love to hear them. As long as they are not simply praise. Constructive criticism is what I seek as harsh as possible please.

I'm not sure what all other projects you mean. You mean, absolutely everything? As in, filling out DeviantArt requests, and working on that other superhuman series you were thinking of?

Well, it's up to you. How passionately do you feel about it right now? If your passion for this project outweighs that of other projects, then by all means, set them aside. Let them take a breather. But if this is just a project you happened across, and want to get it out of your system as soon as possible, by some feeling of obligation, then I say hold your horses. If you try to force it, then it won't come out the absolute best. At least, that's what I've seen in my experience with writing projects.

Also, you might want to be careful of being heavy-handed with the environmental message.

Factions fighting for resources.
Sounds like a setting for a StarCraft type of game.

They are not fighting for resources. I never said they were. In fact, they aren't really even fighting. They are simply separated by their ideologies and physical mutations. So, no, it is nothing like Starcraft.

Well, not completely everything. I'll do some projects on the side like I always do.

Wait, which superhuman series...I had several.

The environmental angle was more of a starting idea...its not the main message. More of a background thing really.

The more recent one, with the Doomsayer (?).

Also, have you decided on what's going on between the different factions, if not civil unrest or war?

I haven;t worked on that for weeks. I like the idea but its not going anywhere. But yes, I'd have to put off that to work on this.

I have a vague idea of what's going on. Definitely not all out war on all fronts though. Since most factions have isolated themselves war seems silly. A couple may be at odds enough to skirmish every now and then though. And general distaste of one another is guaranteed.

So, there's no physical conflict between any of the factions? Just hostility?

Well when you put it like that...New idea. The main source of constant conflict arises from the marauding bands of Nuclear Worshipers who wander into other territories to pilfer, kill, and raze.
