One in particular had Undead Vampires (There were Living Vampires, Infected with Vampirism but still alive) were explicitly soulless. Their minds and bodies were still there, but the soul and spirit had left the building.

Interesting, but exactly what is vampirism? Is it a virus, a curse, or form of possession in that story?

The vampire who mentions this is merely a secondary character, not the focus of the story, so it's just a point for her to angst about while the protagonist acts nice.

Of course, the protagonist is tainted by demons.. so..

Well here's my point, in the case of sentient undead, or sentient creations, disregarding computers, some magic is always involved in some way. In most cases magic seems to be directly involved directly with the spirit, even in the case of using the power of demons, which they themselves are spirits.

I see your point. In that case I might just take dreams, and then spirits.....It reminds me of something similiar to

.....If I take souls, or spirits more aptly, I would be able to make an excuse to form the chains.....which I could then use to control minds anyway....but without dream, I can't create illusions...or the staff, unless I really stretch Chaos..................

Then again, I already have a realm of spirits and dreams.....I think I might just take spirits instead.
