I have an idea! Maybe we should list what role our character fills in the party, as well as our characters goals. I think that would help Zale when deciding things like that.
For example, mine is mainly a buffer/debuffer, and her goal is to make a pot of soup out of the most legendary of monsters.

I really wish I could do a roleplay without tons of rules..
Why do mine always end up that way?
“She'd become a governess. It was one of the few jobs a known lady could do. And she'd taken to it well. She'd sworn that if she did indeed ever find herself dancing on rooftops with chimney sweeps she'd beat herself to death with her own umbrella.”

I'm wanting to be the Tank / Defender of the team.
The goal of my character would probably be to increase fame for himself in order to become the head of his clan in the future, causing him to venture out and quest.
Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. |

Because you despise it so.

I have no idea what kind of roles there are for roleplaying, but my character's goal would be to get combat experience with her magic. After all, 1 hour of combat is better than 100 hours of practice.

Not quite sure exactly what role my character could play in this story. She's kind of a wildcard. And her only objective is to increase the range of her services as a spirit medium and exorcist.

Rules and mechanics aren't bad things, so long as you remember Rule 0.
Rule 0: The DMs judgement supersedes all other rules. Provided, of course, that the DM uses rule 0 responsibly.

That sounds like a Nuker.
They blow things up.

I wouldn't mind..
Part of me is now considering having this be something like a semi-comedic fantasy MMO roleplay.. Where our characters are really the poor, poor ingame characters suffering from the bizzare rules of the world. Warrior: "Wow. I'd be totally terrified of this troll if I didn't know you could fireball him, buddy." Mage: "Uh.. About that. Funny thing. I'm kinda.. out of mana." Warrior: "Oh... We are totally screwed. Aren't we?" Warrior: "Hey. Where'd you go, buddy!?"

I would definitely go for that one. That's highly amusing.

Or you could do what I do with Domain and just have stats, but keep them incredibly vague.

I kinda like the idea of an MMO roleplay now..
Of course, it's probably to much to sudden change this roleplay into that.. And that idea would go off into the queue to die..

MMO? Please no! The change would be too much for my fragile constitutions...

If everyone actually wants to try, we could do that.
It would be much simpler than this, and remove some of the problems- like the whole issue of massacring goblins for no apparent reason- if they're just re-spawning mobs, and you get exp for defeating them.. Then going around ganking things suddenly makes a lot more sense.

This, but not joking. I would be compelled to redo my entire character into something sickeningly meta. I'm talking nerd, roleplaying as nerds, roleplaying as elves, we have to go deeper, Inception sort of stuff.

Depends..
On if we do people who are roleplaying a character (Ala DnD) or people who are just playing to play (Like most WoW players). Or if we're doing it just with characters having personalities, without the acutal player coming into it (Like in Order of the Stick)
