1) It has nothing to do with water, although it is a strange form of adaptation is some cases (but only when you look at it).

6) His body never changed in any way.

It is none of the powers you suggested, although I must admit they are clever suggestions.

If, at the time of the incident, he wasn't with his friends and there was noone else on the beach or around, would he have survived? If so, would his survival have happened the exact same way?

Does the mentalist, the women, or a third party has the power? A third party.
Was that person in the room? Yes.
Was it tactile or ranged, physical/mental/divine/astral/magic? Ranged and magic.
Is it part of a Mythpower or part of another series? No and no.

Yeah, that's annoying. I usually use google when it happens, by searching "site:www.superpowerlist.com " + my keywords and using the cached function to have access to the pages.

No, I don't think you messed up. It's just that we've already used plots with someone who has the ability to acquire new abilities, so it's not really a surprise anymore. It was a good way to make people search for the wrong superpowers, but once it's discovered, it's only a matter of time before we discover the conditions of use, and then the superpower itself.
