All the more reason to not be worried.
New words require exercise, like a muscle.
For example, I have become adept in utilizing a myriad of verbal implements that others find no purpose for. And yet, despite my capability, I feel no need to floccinaucinihilipilificate the utilities of others. I deign condescension to the utmost. And in spite of that, I can abase my capabilities. I can roll with the best of them...or hang out with friends.
In layman's terms, I am skilled in using both elevated diction, and common-speak.
Or to put it even simpler, I think it's valuable to learn big words/SAT words/elevated diction as well as normal words.
