or it's a side affect of the planet suddenly being almost entirely submerged in water, drastically altering the climate, and considering that whatever gave us our powers is in the water supply what would happen to the fish that stay in it twenty four seven.

Well, we can work out the mechanics/physics later...

The organisms living in the deep would be crushed due to a lack of adaptation time. Oxygen would also be reduced due to deeper water and more of it.
This assumes the salinity, pH, etc remains the same through some miracle.

There's still no reason they would have to hug the coast.

Well, uh, maybe the water slides into the oceans some sort of way that it just pushes the water level up. Meaning that all aquatic species are okay, just with ANOTHER water level beneath them.
(If not, then, using the most realistic logic, nearly EVERY creature dies, like Noah's Ark...)

not nearly, every creature period. I say let's just One Peace it, it's an RP who needs physics and reason.

I think my first explanation is good, and we can use some sci-fi explanation to justify why the world has become one big lesson in One Piece geography

....giant spacial anomaly involving our solar system passing through a giant irradiated cloud of H20 floating through the galaxy resulting in an incredible amount of water being absorbed by our planets atmosphere as well as mutating several organisms to the point of giving them super powers?

Or whatever mutated everyone else gets into the ample water supply.
It would be diluted enough to not affect EVERYTHING. And @ Shadowulf It's just, I think most fish are smart enough to swim up when faced with increasing pressure. Sea life would adapt and just swim higher up. Pressure only matters as you go down. I could swim five feet under the water over the deepest sea trench in the world and be fine..

@Jester: Haha, very nice...
@Zale: Um, that's assuming they're not only smart enough, but also FAST enough to do so before the water either crushes them under the pressure, or the mass sloshing of the water does not kick up enough dirt and debris to clog their gills and choke them to death (similar to smoke inhalation for a human)

all coral and non swimming sea creatures would die in other words.

which is why my galactic water cloud might be a good idea, same power gifting/mutation logic as fantastic four, and the water would present itself as a dense rain for several weeks or months.carrying with it several minerals, and salts, keeping the ph and salinity levels pretty much the same.

It would take a few hours at least for the pressure to become deadly.
Unless a few million gallons of water somehow teleported equally across the entire planet.

Anything that can't swim will die in a floodacolypse. Unless they get on a boat or a mountain during low tide.

In other words, a human and any animals that human doesn't think deserves to die...
That should suck for snakes and bugs...
