I decided to try and put myself in a fantasy mood by making some homebrew for D&D.

Basically, the Fair Folk as a race.

Should be fun.

I thought the Fair Folk were already a race...

In D&D.

One that doesn't have a level adjustment that outweighs any possibility of it being used.

Well, I tend to make up powers on the spot when existing ones don't sound good.

What do you think of that power, Mad Magic, that I made up for the WOM game? Inflicts a random status effect. Though, this version could be adapted to all of the different status effects available in D&D, not just in WOM (which I'm sure are less varied).

Status effects vary from meh to what amounts to instant death...

I'm going with a sort of genre savvy feel.

One of the possible abilities would be..

Conservation of Ninjutsu [Fair Folk]
Prerequisite
Dex 14, Dodge

Benefit

You gain a dodge bonus to your Armor Class equal to the number of hostile creatures in your line of sight.

This bonus only applies if the hostile creatures outnumber you and any allies.

Well, I'll let you know when I think of anything that compliments that.

You could think of some abilities linked to animal motifs.

Cat, Bird, Fish, Lizard, Etc..

Anyway, right now I'm focusing on making things for the six ability scores.

What exactly do you need to be able to do it?

It's basically an attempt to make playable magic-ish fey.

Four Racial Hit Dice, so it has to make up for four lost class levels.

Look at it this way.

If you were a fictional character aware of your fictionality, how would you take advantage of this?

If you could have inhuman and nonsensical ways of doing normal things, what would you have?

Fury of the Fourth Wall- Player casts an aura about himself, to share his fictional self-awareness with other fictional characters; for allies, they realize the malleability of the fictional world, thus making their moves more powerful (for however many turns you decide); for foes, they realize that their magic and spell-like abilities, thus disabling their magic and spell-like abilities (for however many turns you decide)

In other words, allies would be able to break the fourth wall, and the fourth wall would be able to break foes.

That may be a bit.. too.. game changing.

After all, it would shatter people's psyche's to realize they're fictional. The Fair Folk don't mope because they realize that being fictional has it's.. advantages.
