 Okay, then, let's do that.

I can see the logic behind it, I suppose.

Except elementals composed of their home element (ie Salamanders with flaming bodies). Can a plant-type attack really harm them?

That would then go into the special effects category. E.G. in Pokemon, Steel types are immune to Poison; in M:TG, Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts is immune to creatures, etc.

In M:TG, the effect is called "Immunity to (Color, Artifact, Creatures, Spells, etc.)

Hm. I need to figure out some of them...

Ethereal bodies would be a special trait written in the description. All attacks that are of a weaker element don't do any damage, but any attack of a greater element does twice.

Then, you want to give merit to elements?

I thought Dryad just said we wouldn't do that.

If you want to work it out, though, please do. I want to know your plan for how it works.

Well, I didn't say we weren't. That's up to everyone to decide, but I do think that while they are a good idea to classify things, their impact on mechanics should be minimal. As such, nothing difficult to remember. A simple X - Y rather than X^2 + 4Y - 6Z to give an idea of what I'm trying to say. If people have to remember to double or halve numbers then the game becomes too complicated, despite it being easy math.

I can maybe contribute my little two cents some time tomorrow. I had a different idea than my previous one, about

Though, it should be noted, I'm planning on getting into contact, soon, with a friend of mine who plays MTG on a regular basis. Hopefully, I can convince him to contribute some of HIS knowledge, where MY knowledge of the game seems to really be lacking. So, hopefully, most knowledgeable input on my end will come from what knowledge I gain from him.

I wonder if we can't pick up from where we left off, and get this running again, as something more efficient and comprehensive.

sure, we need to finalize game mechanics before we do anything else though.

We basically need to fully design

fields

player cards

monster cards

etc.

Although in reality, it would make a better D&D style board game than a card game.

Dang, you replied almost exactly a year later. But, yeah, I think you're right. A board game would work much better to our purposes here. Or, at least the online equivalent, so it could be equally accessible to us all.

how good are you at developing complex combat systems based on series of stat multipliers altered by the actions of the players.

Good answer. We need to start by determining what stats we're going to need besides Str, Int, Dex, HP, Sta, MP, and Def.

We can always take one from the Dark Souls playbook and include some form of Faith type stat.

good point.

Considering that faith in dark souls has to do with channeling the power of the gods perhaps we can create a sort of attunement stat which effects the multipliers of mythos fusions.

In addition to that we might as well have a Will like stat that effects the power of magic based attacks and various variables for strength and dex based attacks.

Wulf, while you're on.

Should we give Weapons durability and hardness and sharpness stats.

hardness in the physical sense meaning what it can effect, as in a bronze dagger wouldn't do much against iron plate, while an iron dagger would be as effective.
