I'm thinking of starting each year with a particular class for the new students. It will be only on the first day and will teach each student about each of the different schools of magic as well as determining their aptitude for each school. At the end of the class they will know which school they are best in and will be given classes accordingly.

Maybe an Energy Conservation and Management class, can't have young wizards running out of mana and being unable to user magic.
