Before winter break, me and my friends played some D&D, except that it fell apart when the person in charge didn't bother to actually make a plot, so I figured I'd try my hand at making a D&D campaign and get assistance from you guys for some of the plot.

What I have so far:
The story starts after the group gathers together (I'll let them make their own back story for why they are there) to meet Archmage Vostok in this old dungeon. The Archmage is going to lead them to a newly discovered entrance into the underground. Something is happening below the surface that is causing problems for those that live above. What they don't know is how vast the underground really is. The main campaign takes place completely at the underground continent (That I need a name for).

Other Notes
The entrance to the underground is this well (Need some way to identify it as entrance) so that they have to jump down into the water below to enter the under ground continent, and can't get back up.

Archmage gives them medallion so that they can communicate, but it break during the fall. (Figure I can use that in plot at some later point)

The ceiling of the cave holds these rare minerals that let light through from the surface far above, so when it is day on surface it is day underground, except for areas without the mineral / crystal.

There is going to be a unique race underground (That I need to think up ideas for, plus name) that is for the most part going to be friendly to the group.

The whole continent isn't all in one section of the cave, so the group has to find a way into new cave pockets at several points.

So, Why are they wanting to go underground? What do they wish to accomplish?

OOC: I thought it would be more interesting than standard campaign

IC: This is part I need to work on. Archmage is working for kingdom, so she leads them to entrance, but stays behind because she is too important to kingdom. Reason for them going down there though....still need to add too. Something below ground is causing troubles for the kingdom above. Plus once they discover the continent below, they find other troubles they have to take care of before they can return above.

Besides, I'm from the Elemental Union and the Soulsword originates from the Draconic Empire.

@Zale: Humanoid race, adapted to living underground (There is light, so wouldn't be blind. There are also large open caves as well as small tunnels) I'm thinking that they would be more neutral, and would give the group outposts where they could rest. Most of the time they only have small settlements tucked away in an area where they can be protected from danger, save for maybe one larger city. Feel free to add what you can think.
