[Celadon's Penultimate]

 "Um...well...it may take a while." I turn back to the diminutives, "But I'm sure we can find our way out eventually...isn't that right?"

The diminutives blink simultaneously, and then their leader crosses his arms, and speaks, "Well? What do you expect US to do about it?"

Then they go back to fixing up the broken little house, while the leader retires to his tiny palace for some R&R.

[Philote]

"So, if we exit from this direction" I say pointing "What is the area that shifts towards us?"

[Celadon's Penultimate]

 "I...I can't really tell...I think this direction here is probably the most likely, due to it being the next-closest. Then again, we should probably expect the least likely. Or, maybe not, since that would make it the most likely, thus negating its chance of being the likely option. Or...maybe, if we take the not-least-most-likeliest route..."

I have to stop a second to let my poor brain catch up...

"Okay, look. Honestly, this thing seems just to show us the different lands available to explore in Demens. I don't think we should rely on it to know how to get there. See ya, Diminutives, we gots to go."

[Philote]

"Well at least it is good for something"

[Celadon's Penultimate]

 "That's one way to look at it."

I take a look at the map as we leave the Diminutive village.

"Hey, I wonder if we'll ever get to see the Labyrinth? I heard some guy named Escher designed it...I wonder why the guy who told me was so afraid when he said it?"

[Philote]

"Aren't we already in a labyrinth of sorts? Don't know who this Escher guy is."

[Celadon's Penultimate]

"Yeah, says here, there's a literal maze here. Escher designed a labyrinth, a staircase, even a waterfall..."

We continue through the grass, and it seems to grow smaller and smaller the further we go on.

At last, the grass seems back to normal size. But that's not saying anything about the surrounding architecture. The houses making up the village we encounter...are HUGE.

[Philote]

"Think we can get some giant food before we are caught? Haven't had any good food in a while."

[Celadon's Penultimate]

 "Sounds like a plan. I suggest we pair up and head out."

[Philote]

"I think we could probably fit under one of these doors, seeing how big the house is."

[Celadon's Penultimate]

 Indeed. Let's get vermin-y...

[Philote]

I sneak in with the group into the first house we come across.

[Celadon's Penultimate]

It's a homely little cottage, made of some unknown wood, mildly fragrant (though that may just be because we're so close to the ground).  Time to scavenge for some scraps. As I fill my pockets with what I can, I keep an eye out for potential harm, and fortunately there is none from where I can see.

At first.

THUMP.

THUMP.

KA-THUMP.

"Wha-what is that?" I ask nobody in particular, feeling the vibration fairly hard through the floorboards.

I look around, panicked, to see that there is now a large being headed in our direction. I'd say it was a troll, but it has ogre-ish features as well. With a bit of goblin mixed in. Maybe some boggary or bugbear. And it has a serpent-like tongue. What goblinoid has a forked tongue?

I decide now's not the time for a mini-xeno-anthropology lesson; I hurry back behind a sack of edible seeds, and gesture to the others to do the same.

[Philote]

"Think we can take him" I say jokingly, "But seriously, anyone have a plan?"

[Celadon's Penultimate]

I keep my voice low, mumbling to myself about what we can possibly do to avoid being caught or harmed by them. But, then I look around the corner of the food sack, and I see...

"Is...is that a baby?"

The gurgling, cooing monstrosity claps its hands, amused at some insect flying by that we would consider horse size. It then catches the insect, plops on the floor, and begins chomping on the horse-sized bug.



"Well, um," I stifle back a gag-reflex, "I think if we throw something out there, in the opposite direction, we may be able to catch his curiosity, so we can sneak past him."

[Philote]

"The gene manipulator should be able to increase his strength enough to throw that far I think"

[Celadon's Penultimate]

 "What say you Cyto? Think you can do it?"

[Marvelous Miscreant]

"It should be a simple matter..."

[Philote]

Cyto readies to make the distraction, but as I move to get a better view, my metal weapon catches on the sack we are hiding behind, ripping it. The contents of the bag begin spilling on the floor around us, causing the tear to widen as more and more spills out.

The enormous baby turns his head, as we have nearly caught his attention.

"Goo?"
