1.8 has officially been released and is awesome!

I went around in creative mode doing the following:
-Tried out the flying aspect.
-Making the largest possible TNT bridge over lava (exploded after a few seconds).
-Set off a bigger explosion.
-Flew down, acquired a golden sword from my list and killed an Enderman.
-Killed a creeper with a "little" TNT.

All three TNT explosions lagged even my computer.
