Re: Message Board...(continued)

For Christmas I got both FTL and XCOM

I've decided that I will be naming my crew in both after members of the SPL

The maiden voyage of The Ark in FTL was met with disaster though, the three member crew of Wulf, Zale, and Marv were viciously murdered by a band of pirates after only reaching their second sector.
Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

On a happier note, I can see Misfits, Series 4, on Hulu. So...that's a plus.

Zale has become my first casualty in XCOM as well  He is really having a tough time, but he will be reborn!

We need more females on the SPL, I don't have enough names for the female recruits on XCOM

Savior has become my top soldier though, she upgraded into a sniper and is horrifyingly deadly

Naturally. I'm sure she'll be tickled to hear that.

XCOM is pretty fun if you like strategy games. It is turn based where you move your soldiers around and tell them which actions to take. In between missions you build you base and customize your troops through research and training.

FTL is one of those games where once you die you have to start the game completely over, but it is built to be played multiple times until you get a good path and make it to the end boss. Each time you play it is randomized, so you won't get the same sequence of events twice.

@Wulf: She has the highest kill count so far. Also, I'll have to break out the cloning tools to create a Bug mark II now

I've just had that soul crushing moment when you realize some of your extended relatives are heartless assholes.

My Grandmother is getting dementia.

Only a few of her eight children want to help her.

Of the ones that do, one lives in another state, the other two work constantly and the final one has been watching her non-stop for the last few months.

Those that could help want to ship her off to a nursery home.

I don't think I've been this upset about something for so long.

I thought our family actually cared.

I was so wrong.

I no longer wish to continue this.

Feel free to bring it to an end however you wish, people.

I'm going to go sink into depression now.

Um, pretty please with a cherry on top could you maybe wait until AFTER this arc, to sink into your wallow of self pity? We're pretty close, from what I can tell. We need to amp up our powers to hopefully defeat the beast. It's not that hard. I was just about to add something.

Oh, that's really bad. Reminds me of when my grandfather got cancer. It really showed my aunts' and cousins' true colors. My grandmother was the only one who kept the family together, so when she passed, not a one of them wanted to step up and take care of my grandfather; instead, they descended into chaos, marked by alternations between intermittent cold wars and sudden outbursts into argument. They kept pushing it off on each other, acting like it was really a huge bother to their schedule.

Basically, it resulted in my father uprooting me and my mother (my sister had already left for college by then) to live with him, and take care of him around the clock. We basically ended up losing our old house because of that. Had no time to go back and take care of the house, so it all went to crap. Got really badly dilapidated in the storms and such, until it was unfit to be lived in. It was condemned, and it had to be bulldozed, with a great lot of our stuff still in it.

And in the meantime, we got little to no thanks for putting forth our efforts--yes OUR efforts...my mom helped, too, and so did I, despite having absolutely no idea how to care for an old man. Not only did we get little to no thanks, and get treated as though it was our job alone to take on the task, but they only peeked in every once in a while to complain that we weren't doing things right or that they didn't like they way we ran things.

One of my aunts even threatened to call the police, for my father using the machine on my grandfather that ultimately ended up healing him. And another was actually single-handedly responsible for my grandfather having to get part of his leg amputated (inbox me on FB if you want the gory details).

The only bright spot in the whole ordeal is that he was finally cured of cancer in the end. Though, even that has been overshadowed in that he's had to go live in a nursing home. Following his having to get his leg amputated, my dad fell ill, too, so he could no longer take care of my grandfather. And in the shabby care of those stupid nurses, he's been contracting illnesses back to back, in and out of hospitals.

Naturally, that put a pretty bad strain on our family. Factions developed, and all.

I guess my real point is, I can totally empathize. And while I know dementia is incurable, I do hope your grandmother's circumstance improves. And even if nobody else steps in to help, I hope you guys find solace in that you're doing all you can do. And those who aren't genuine, you don't need to have in your circle anyhow. I'd love very much to have a relationship with my Aunt Bob and Aunt Helen, and their clan, but they simple aren't the kind of people I want to associate with. They gossip, lie, spread rumors and speak without wisdom. Despite the fact I love them, they can't be trusted, and are often the sources of family conflict.

At any rate, if you need someone to talk to, or just to vent to, you know I'll try to be here.

I just saw your post in the Message Board. Really, I'm sorry. I thought you were originally talking about some silly teenagery moodiness. If I had known, you know I can empathize, in an attempt to understand your pain. This isn't nearly as important as your grandmother's (or your) personal well-being.

We'll keep you and your family in our prayers, I promise.

Just throw everything at the creature, and I'll make a suitably interesting death scene.

I'm more sitting here, trying to understand why my family acted like that while trying to forget that they did by immersing myself in some consumptive project..

My Grandmother is with one of my aunts. I hope we can work everything out.

I wish I'd spoken and tried to sway them..

Once again the mask of the person they expect me to be has caged me in regret.

I'm sorry you're having trouble Zale

That is a really terrible position to be in, but don't start beating your self up over things you could have said when you're in a situation that is most likely out of your control.

Well, don't be so sure that there's something you could have done. By what it sounds like, your best bet is simply to hope for the best. Believe me, I felt the same way when my aunts and cousins were treating my grandfather the way they were, but there's no need to stir up chaos in a situation where it's only marginally likely to pay off.

Really, though, I pray all works out for your grandmother's well being.

I really just want to finish this so I can move onto something enjoyable, like planning things for LoC.

Okay, then, so if everybody is done saying their concerns and well-wishes here, then we need to move this to the Message Board thread, and elsewise out of the RP section.

I'll give this a couple minutes, and then move it.
