So, how do you think the fight is going?

Kind of tense. I get the feeling you could dominate Hime if you could find her.

Draemar Sorcery is strong if supplied sufficient energy. Amalia is depending heavily on that Mana Battery Spell.

It has like.. several weeks' worth of mana. Once she expends it, then it'll be months before she manages to restore it.

Not to mention, she has spent quite a lot of time on learning magic. Typically, apprenticeship starts at around ten or eleven, and Amalia is about 40~.

30 or so years of learning how to use magic. Since the Draemar aren't handed magic to them on a plate, it takes decades of practice for them to grow proficient.


Anyway, Amalia isn't even that much of a combat mage. She bought some pre-made combat spells before coming. Most of what she's using is stuff she makes use of on the job.

The exploding mist is useful for demolitions, and the arms are good for moving heavy construction materials.  She's made use of both very much during the rebuilding of Bluebell.

Tharam lost because he was a traditionalist. They refuse to make use of more modern spells and incantations.

That's interesting. And GV is right. Hime is more of a stealth-based fighter. The Hydra Dagger does help with fighting a lot though as does the Cloak for Hime.

Anyone have any comments on Hime's fighting style? How it can be improved, name changes for techniques, etc?

Note: That last attack she did does not have its name in Japanese. The Humuhumunukunukuapua'a is the state fish of Hawaii.

It seemed like most of her abilities were similar, she either used a direct path of daggers or daggers coming in from a circle around target.

Also, I'm not sure how effective dropping daggers around the arena would be. If she was fighting one of my people, I would of had them remove what daggers they could while she was still preparing.

Your characters also all seem to have a strange combination of magics, it seems unfocused.

Strange combination of magicks? How so? Elemental magic is easily learnable in Mina's land especially if the goods are teaching it. Healing can also be learned from the tanuki as well. As for nature magicks, well that's going in theme with Hime's name and can be learned possibly from Kyuuketsu, the goddess of Wood and Blood since there is no Nature God(dess) right now.

Just because they can learn all the different magics doesn't mean they should. I usually like to think that the characters need a few common threads for their powers to revolve around. If a character has a seemingly random power it hurts the character overall. There are ways to make good characters with a wide range of elemental powers, for example Naram can work with several elements because his powers primarily focus around manipulating the arcane. A character doesn't need to be able to use every element to be effective.

The only one who's used all of the elements is Kagehana; Hime only used ice and plant magic; Taro, as I recall, only used blood magic during his battle; Koriko and Fubuki have only used ice and snow; Mizuna's only used healing and illusions (to dull pain); Hikaru's only used Light magic; Kira, Sora, Koneko, Jigoku, and Hiko haven't even used magic yet in the story. Other than Kagehana, no one's used magic that would seem random to you. If Hime's magic seemed wierd though, she's based off of a mythical character (somewhat).

It seemed like you were making them all have access to a wide variety. Maybe if you made Hime's magic more related to her daggers, though you started too with having the vines throw the daggers. I'm not sure how Ice fits in with Hime's theme so far.

I'm caught up in a few things and I'm about to start working on the monsterking agenda again but Vault, I have to ask since your involved. Would you prefer a slight visit to the pasts of each of the characters, or a simple monster formed from warped combinations of memories brought on by a combination of the mosnterking's influence, and traces the hag god's virus?

They have access to several types of magic, but it's only Kagehana who's learned a large number of them.

Nayotake no Hime's name comes from Nayotake no Kagayaku Hime (Shining Princess of Young Bamboo) who was princess of the moon and the moon is associated with ice/water usually.

Artifact that I plan to create: Water Candle

It is a metal candle with a flame made of water. The water making up the flame glows, but the area around the candle becomes darker. The Water Candle attracts and agitates mythical creatures. Anything set aflame by the candle has the same effects (flame made of water, surroundings get darker, affects mythical creatures).
