Willow remains motionless for two minutes after he is successfully lowered down. If nothing happens, he will poke his staff around the sand at the corners of the chest and eventually at the latch for the chest if all goes well.
Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. |

Nothing happens. The sand acts like sand. The Chest acts like a chest.
The lock on the chest crumbles under the force of the prod, it seems it was held together with rust and luck.

Willow waves up at those on the top ledge to show that things are going well. He'll wait for some sort of response and then attempt to open and examine the contents of the chest.

As Star had indicated in the plan the rest of the group stood out of sight, far back from the hole in case it suddenly became a whirlpool or something, on more stable ground. Star was picking his nose with one hand and holding the rope with the other.

The chest's lid creaks open slowly as Willow forces it back. Sand spills off its large top. Once it's open, Willow peers into it and finds...
...what appears to be large room. All logic pertaining to space and time say that there should not...could not...be a room on the inside of this chest. And yet, there was. The room is large, far larger than the chest's volume and appears to be in a vast state of disarray. There are dozens of wooden cupboards, drawers and cabinets lining the walls, all of them closed.

Willow stares in wonder for a moment and even contemplates climbing in, but thinks better of it just before going over the edge. Looking back up the slope. "Hey Star! Pass the rope to someone else and come take a look at this!"

Star hands the rope off before dashing up. "Oh wow," He says, sliding down the hole to look into the chest. He dips down and starts digging at the base of the chest.

Willow grabs Star before he falls in. "I don't think that is just a miniature room at the bottom of the chest. I think that is a full fledged room bigger than the chest we can see."

"At least take this end of the rope before you go jumping in" Willow says as he hands it off. "And be careful for anything cursed would you."

As the sand around the base of the chest is cleared away, Star finds that this chest must indeed be magic, for there is nothing beneath it, save for a thick rusted chain. What a strange place for a chain to be.
A little more digging reveals that the chain is hooked into the back of the chest. Why would a chain be hooked there? The chain seems to wind down from the chest, into the sand and all around....the.....pit.... ...yeah, this is a trap. The ground rumbles, shaking the sand and causing thin rivers of sediment to flow into the pit. Suddenly, A huge red stone hand bursts from the slope of the pit, followed by a worn head sporting a single cracked eye socket, and a large battered torso. The Red-Stone Golem picks itself up from its hiding place and towers over the party, its other arm appears to be chained to the chest. The Golem roars.....

"Finally, a challenge!" Star proclaims, letting his pack drop into the dirt and whipping out his shining new sword. It was just like practicing against the windmills back home, except not nearly as embarrassing if it managed to hit you back. "I've come for your treasure, monster! Come!" And with that he throws his sword in the air, catches it, and swinging it in an arc behind him, leavings a line sliced the sand. "You won't force me to take a single step behind that line!"

The Golem's unchained arm grabs at Star. The air whooshes as the massive hunk of stone accelerates towards the adventurer.

"Yaaaahaaaa." Yells star, leaping at the arm and climbing up on it just as it grasps for him.
"Hahaha!" He says, runnning up the arm. He was up on a monster!

The golem's massive face turned slowly to stare down at the little adventurer on his arm. Its head cocked slightly to side as if it were contemplating Star. The golem started only for a moment before its other arm came swinging about to swat Star away, the chain clanging along through the air behind it.

Star caught the arm swinging around, places his sword in his teeth, and leaps. He catches hold of the chain, riding it to wherever it's taking him.

Willow watched the psychopath swinging around the golem, and doing an impressive job at it as well. Weighing the options, Willow could only see this turning out two ways. Either Star would succeed in his crazy endeavor and there was no point in joining in, or Star was about to be feeling a new world of pain. Whatever the outcome, Willow wasn't going to change much against a golem like that, even with his new staff, but whatever treasure a golem like that was guarding might. So, while the battle was still in their favor, Willow jumps inside the chest and tries to find the most important piece of gear, using his info tag as necessary.

The chain continues of its path, swinging with Star's weight in a tight circle around the golem, wrapping around its arm and torso.

Star grabs his sword and starts climbing up again, to the head. That scar on it's eye was its weak point, he'd bet his life on it. Reaching the shoulder he took Luck in two hands and swung it as the scar.

Sparks flew as the blade struck the hard stone around the eye. The Golem teetered backwards as if confused and stumbled. With speed greater than its size indicated, it swatted at Star, trying to remove him from its body.
