In case anyone is wondering, Praosk is attempting to take temporary advantage of the monster's pain.  Any attacks of opportunity he can perceive will be taken full advantage of, while he has the "sharp sword" in his grasp.

He fully intends to relinquish the sword to Star as soon as he makes his presence known, after his latest fling to the treetops.
