Re: Games! (cont.)

Well, I'd definitely want a mix of experiences. I think any one thing would get boring after a while.

But I guess, that's where the problem starts. I'm not sure of what to make of the experience I want to convey. I can only really think that I want it to be big. Very big. And I want it to have details from actual old societies past.

Like, you know those Runescape game events you could participate in? I'd like stuff like that to happen every once in a while, but with events that actually happened in ancient times and in myth (like a Saturnalia festival offering a Roman myth based quest, or a Samhain festival offering a Celtic myth based quest, or Krampus lurking about near the real-time Christmas season, etc) and of course, the events would be way less extreme (drinking allowed, but no sacrificing or sex, etc).

I'd like to integrate elements of actual myths (within the bounds of not being overly religious, anti-religious, violent or sexual) into the game, while still making clear that this is an alien world, and not just Earth 'mythologized'.

Celadon has its own distinct language(s), its own history, its own politics and all that. I'd just like to share my idea with everybody, so they can see the expanse as I see it all. I mean, characters could stumble into a haunted forest. Or into a valley inhabited by unfriendly yokai. Or a field where centaurs and minotaurs are doing battle. Or you might have to look out for being lured by sirens on the sea (for males), or lured by the fossegrim by a waterfall (for females), or harassed by a ghost. Or, you might take an arrow to the knee, and be walking with a limp for the next few days (the Sims equivalent, of course). Or, you might attempt a magic spell, and it go way different than expected, and now your brother is a living suit of armor. Whatever.

Basically, in addition to just you doing things, the world would also interact with you, for the better or the worse.

MUDs (Multi-User Dungeon) are entirely text-based.

This is, I feel, in their advantage.

Graphical MMOs generally have a limited selection of appearances in character creation. This is because each one is going to have to be made, and all equipment in the game is going to have to be made to fit each possible character appearance.

For this reason, non-humanoid races in MMOs tend to be rare.

MUDs don't have this problem because it's textual. You describe your own character, and equipment fits if you have the proper body parts. You're free to imagine -and describe- what it looks like.

I actually think it's possible for us to create a MUD. A high graphics MMO is way beyond our collective skills and budget.

Idea! Once we decide what were doing here. We can make a Google Document and be able to make changes to it for everyone to see instead of hashing it out purely in posts.

@Marv: Sounds good.

@Zale: So,what precisely would it entail, to make it different from the RPs we've been running already? Do elaborate...

So what does that mean?
Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Try this.

For, like, thirty minutes or so.

MUDs have actual mechanics backing them up, basically.

It's a bit like if we could do LoC with the rules automatically implementing themselves in the background.

So I actually read that as you making a beta for your loot RP / Game document.

Oh, yeah, that could totally work! Sort of like a choose your own adventure, right?

But, ya know, far more detailed, far better executed, and um, on the Interwebs.

I think that could be a thing.

Not sure if it could be a thing for the expansive scope of Celadon, because the scale would be more than just a little daunting, but it could certainly be a thing for some other stories I have lying around. Not to mention, there are plenty we could make out of old, abandoned RP ideas. It would allow for numerous games to take place with similar stories, but with as many divergent outcomes as we like.

Oh, gosh. I...I think I want to give one a try one of these days.

I wonder how many other users would be willing to give me some help in designing the physicality of the worlds we'd be participating in? I'm sort of counting off people in my head now...oh, goodness...

Dead Space 3 is a survival, horror/terror shooter on a spaceship.
It's a very good game, except for the part where you have to shoot asteroids till the automatic turrets come online.
That's hard and takes the pace out of the game.
Took me about 10 hours and it was worth it. Not worthy enough to do the New Game +, though.
If you play it right, you already get the most, if not all, things you need/want.

Probably...course it's more centered on Survival than sandbox. It also has a tendency to make you very, very paranoid about other players.

You're right. Well, it's the first time I noticed such type of survival MMO with crafting & building.

But I probably wouldn't like it with all those dicks running with rocks.
