Too much hassle, and I doubt they would have enough time before we discovered that much activity, if it was already in a heavily populated area, they could just sneak the machinery in with food stuffs. And no  I haven't deeply considered the placement of a base for world domination, stuff like that just naturally popps into my head rather easily.

College student just finished med school at an early age, genius prodegy in the fields of medicine, and technology, with a background of minor parkor and martial arts. Unfortunately at ground zero of an alien bombing. When he woke up he was littered by dead bodies and had the ability to manifest syringes out of thin air. Even with his new ability he couldn't bring the people back to life or save them, making him go a bit insane. Since then He's been conducting secret underground experiments, patenting adventions and spreading them out the general public. He heard the Proffessor's message, and hit the road.

So, he's not a genius scientist/researcher, who owns his own corporation, or leads his own military, which somehow has the intelligence and strength to take on Aliens, he'd have to have some degree.
