hey, it was Myself's potion that gave it it's powers in the first place, then I had to rebuild it's soul, and reworked it's power system. It's no wonder he's beginning to mutate.

In your case, a wolf is just as good, although the attack is more predictable (humans fear wolves) and the power is less concentrated (wolves are bigger).

..........it doesn't really matter how small the animal is, or large for that matter, if you provide it with enough energy to overload it. If we wanted to we could do the same thing with a blue whale and get near to the same results.
