as in wiring programing, gold ratios, how to handle making them into complex structures, etc.

Re: Questions

Wouldn't complex structures require them to have a perspective of where to go by some electromagnetic signal and a base design that makes them compatible to link together.

Re: Questions

jester_of_god
yes, yes it would. I'm thinking mainly a spherical structure with magnetically charged hairs similar to Cilia, along with a few brain cores to coordinate the actual movements of the drones.

Re: Questions

Still, wouldn't you need a nano "center of gravity" for them to direct themselves around unless your  going for them to have a base structure design that they form together and they can then be directed.

Re: Questions

jester_of_god
either that or have them continually give a location signal which can be intercepted by the brain which then tells them to move to the correct spot, the "center of gravity" would most likely be the brain itself.

Re: Questions

neogenetica
Would the brain be stationary or remain near it's former position because the rest of the structure rotates around it's point moving it to a new location only on the completion of the movement?

Re: Questions

mostly stationary but capable of movement, there would be several, not just one.

Re: Questions

So let me get a clear mental image of the design. The nanobots would all be spherical in shape with several special brain nanobots to directs them and they form into a structure right?

Re: Questions

What exactly are you trying to acomplish? I think that smaller than cell nanobots would be powerful but I worry if you start to ask about the ones composed of only atoms.

....cell would be the smallest, I"m focused on at least as small as B,B, some capable of flattening out to produce an exterior.

B, B. I do know some about nanotechnologty and will be researching it soon for a school project but I am afraid I do not know the nanoscale.

Re: Questions

jester_of_god
BB as in BB gun. small round steel spheres. ....okay probably about half that size, but not sand scale yet. the actual definition of nanobot says it's in nanometers but I want it about that size, easier to keep track of... and build.

Re: Questions

the actual brains would be about the size of the old super bouncy balls.

Oh I see that makes this somewhat simpler. I suppose that the microbots would have to be made of some very conductive metal or carbon nanotubes with small twig like branches that could allow them to clasp on to eachother.  You mentioned cilia before to so those could be used to pass a charge that activated a clamping mechanism, attached the cilia together, or gave the microbot information. Being on that scale proggraming them shouldent be too much of a challenge with todays microchips. I suppose that the brains could have "rings" of a sort that the cilia could firmly fix to and they would relay positions to other brains arranging the machines.

Re: Questions

jester_of_god
yes but then again I'm going to try to go for the really complex shapes and perhaps even a few simple machine structures. I was considering using either an electro magnetic charge at the tips of the cilia to hold them together or to utilize the same principle that keeps a chameleon stuck to a wall. But the latter would be a bit harder to direct, albeit require a lot less power, Oh I almost forgot in addition to the brains their would also be a few battery cells, and some other specialized units that could make up the skeletal structure of the shape so to speak. for extra support.

And WHAT is the purpose of trying to inquire about nanotech?

Depending on the definition, nanorobots can either be strictly nanometric in size or any kind of robot that can directly manipulate nanometric objects. Also, at scales below the millimeters (if I remember correctly), robots tend to rely more on or be impeded by physical properties of matter which are preponderant at such scales, like matter elasticity, surface tension, Van der Waals forces, piezoelectricity,... And not all of them rely on electricity to convey instructions or energy, some use chemicals, mechanical structures,...
