I'm a little uncertain of the properties of Aether actually, from what I've learned it is the substance that makes up the heavens, and outer levels of space, and that it has special properties (Magical maybe?). Like you can fuse Aether with other objects to have Aether Trees, Fires, Etc.

(Vortex as in pushing it away or cutting it up?)

It's fiery. Hot, fiery and plasmatic.

For that reason Heaven was sometimes referred to as "The Empyrean" or "The (divinely) fiery place". It was likely the essence of divine fire.

The being charges forward, and a purple energy goes out in front of him. The energy closes down around Marv in the shape of a mouth.

Marv is fast enough to dodge out of the attack, but part of the winds and the Aether Millipede are consumed.

The aura sphere drills into the beings body, but is unable to penetrate it's skin. The energy around the being begins to close around the ball, removing layers of the aura at a time.

While he is still being driven back, the being opens several small portals around him releasing bullets of random pressurized matter.
