Re: Favorite Bands

Scotch
All I can say is the 90's are my all time favorite. And not just underground, grunge and all that stuff, which I am quite fond of. I mean below the underground. The kind of bands whose CD's go for 12 cents a piece on amazon. But I still like mainstream stuff. Some of my favorites that I can think of off the top of my media player are:
Atmosphere
Cake
Dios
Fujiya & Miyagi
Gorillaz
Interpol
Muse
Pixies
Queens of the Stone Age
Soul Coughing
Tally Hall
The Thermals
These are all pretty mainstream, but they make me happy. I just don't like hearing the same thing over and over.

This is gonna seem like an ad, and it totally is, because I like advertising the things I love. Have any of you ever been to slacker.com? Because if you like hearing new stuff similar to the bands you already love, you should check it out. Sorry about that. I promise I don't work for any ad agency, and I'm not a bot. octag- gateway. See? Not a bot.

Y'all ready for this?

As you may or not know, I myself am a trumpet player. So, a lot of my favorite band choices are influenced by both my musician's ear and what I like to call Brass Bias.

Brass Bias (n): the natural inclination for brass players to be drawn toward trombone/trumpet heavy tunes. About a fourth my favorite bands have at least one horn player: Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Blues Brothers, Tom Wait's backup band, etc. Another fourth are jazz musicians; though I appreciate a lot of music, jazz's ridiculous chord changes and demand for improvisation make it the hardest musical genre to actually play. John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Allen Vizzutti, Maynard Ferguson, Dizzy Gillespie, and Sonny Rollins are all some of my favorite musicians.

But I'm not a jingoistic trumpet player. Technical skill on any instrument merits my attention. Which brings me to one of my favorite bands--Tool. Have you heard Danny Carey? It's like God's on the drums. Tool is the broadest, deepest band I've ever heard as well. Half their songs are about mental concepts or ancient philosophy--and it's GOOD. Through them, I have embraced other metal bands: Pelican, A Perfect Circle, and Korn.

In the Other/Miscellaneous category stand Tin Hat Trio, Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Dylan, Son House, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, U2, and Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky.

So. Were you ready for it? I know I wasn't.

Paradise by Deca Caszm. Look for it. It's the kind of song that truly lets you know that your dreams are never coming true. So beautiful.

Re: Favorite Bands

Lyranardo
When the word "Pirate Metal/Rock" goes to my ears I get Flogging Molly in my head. Anyway, I love the following: Cake, Bob Dylan, Lesly Gore, Relient K, Bobby Darin, and obviously The Beatles.\

Edit: Changed a grammatical error.

Re: Favorite Bands

Lyranardo
Nah, it's ok people tend to call me that way a lot actually. The name sorta just hit me, it's a play on words of Leonardo which I love that name. Also because one day when asked my full name I had said "Sir Lyranardo Twith Leroy Jenkins IV"....so yea, zip zap zoopledy zoo.

Do you mean superpower-wise? Because a lot of the powers on the site could be adapted for flight with a little imagination.
Also, your avatar looks like a time bomb from far away.

He's supposed to be king Garfield :p, yes I do mean creative ways of manipulating superpowers to help fly but the more unusual the power, the better.

E.G using the machine gun spit one while standing on you head could give enough momentum to fly (bad example I know)
