I make a small custom planet like the rest of the site (well, some of us anyway).
It is
partially based on
Codex Alera, with everyone capable of manipulating one of the following elements, each with a physical modification:
-Wood (regeneration)
-Metal (durability + pain tolerance)
-Air (speed)
-Fire (fire immunity)
-Earth (strength)
-Water (underwater adaptation)
There is a "king" of each element and six princes of each element (or their female equivalents). One prince of the king's element stays with him and the other five go off to each of the others to regulate their respective populations (water manipulators never listen to earth manipulators, for example). Thus, each king has one prince of each element in his court.
However, when a king dies, his six princes (whether or not they're his actual children) and his guardian (explained later) return home and engage in a battle of elemental manipulation to decide the victor, who replaces the king. Then, one other prince (or, again, female equivalent) takes the place of the new king.
However, only the adults gain elemental manipulation; children only gain them upon reaching puberty. Before puberty, they all have a shapeshifting ability similar to that in the book series
Shifters, then choose their form.
Each race there has a "gift". For example, fairies can shapeshift to a limited extent for their entire lives, while humans manipulate elements.
I am protected by a guardian of each element. In addition to their element manipulation abilities, they are able to absorb all kinds of energy. These barons can also fight to become king, though they lose their enhanced powers. Should they die or become king, one of the six princes will replace him after yet another fight.
The guardians are connected to me; we each strengthen each other, just like my special weapons kept in my armory and modified objects. In addition, when they absorb energy, my powers are boosted, as well as their own.
I'm still modifying it. The idea to create it really came from Celadon.
