Uh, 'Tis I, the Penultimate! I went deep into my monetary reserves and made sure to spring for the superhumanly-intelligent, orthodontically-enhanced, immutable super-rats with heightened strength, speed, reflexes, senses, durability and metabolism.

OTHERWISE, you could just say that they possess a superhuman subliminal biomechanism that induces the production of a fine mucus, thus keeping their skin lubricated and acid-resistant, but maintaining dermal homeostasis, so they don't constantly ooze like the Swamp Creeps of Ancient Sciops.
