Nix takes a couple deep breaths and then forces himself to take the first step up the stairs out of the basement. The momentum of the first act is enough to carry him up the rest of the way of the stairs without stopping and turning back.
Once he is on the surface, Nix takes a glance at his surroundings. This had not been his home, but the memory of his mad dash of safety through this area was still fresh in his mind and the sorry state that this house and the world around it had fallen in to was saddening. A quick look over the kitchen area reveals what they had all already expected. The food had already been scavenged by other survivors, or at least they hoped, and they would have to travel elsewhere for food. Nix's next stop brings him outside with Ben and Tyler. "I vote for going over. We should travel to the nearby supermarket. The backroom stock of canned food might not have been scavenged yet and we might even be able to look up where the canned food is shipped from if we're going to plan for the future."

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. |
Nix shoulders his way outside between Ben and Tyler. Since he is outside, and not in the doorway, he notices a few other things.
There is a similar hole in the fence to his left, again just big enough for a good sized dog, leading into the backyard of a neighboring home. From what you can see over the fence, the home appears to be intact. The same cannot be said for the home to your right, a charred shell of it's former self. You're lucky that the fire didn't spread. There is another hole, of the same size, in that fence. The gate to the front yard is, surprisingly, still shut. Unlocked, but shut.

Nix stretches for a moment, trying to work out more kinks from his lack of sleep.
"I'm going to scout out the other side of this fence. Somebody come give me backup and another one of you keep a lookout here so that we don't vanish. Need to check out of this house has any starting provisions for us." Nix phases his fingers through the fence while leaving his palms tangible, allowing him to grab on to a middle section of the fence and climb his way up it like it was a ladder. He takes a quick peak around from the top of the fence before jumping down the other side and squatting low.

A long dark corridor, the sound of gunfire in the fire distance, A figure huddled in the corner shivering in fetal position. All becomes silent for a moment and the figure looks up, just as a piercing scream rings through the silence and hands grab him from the shadows.
Rorschev snaps awake, his brow covered in a cold sweat, huddled in the corner of the basement. His eyes dart around the room, not yet fully awake, before he leans against the wall and runs his hands through his hair attempting to lower his breathing. Suddenly he looks up, noticing the silence of the room and looks around, his eyes now adjusted to the gloom. For a brief moment fear runs through him, as the idea that the others had ben taken in his sleep runs through his mind, before he hears voices from above. With a sigh of relief Rorshev makes his way up to ground level to join the rest. |

"Wait for me! I'm coming with you."
Ben Scrambled over the fence awkwardly, falling over the other side and landing face first.

You all land in a ditch with the crunch of dead, brown leaves. Around you the wood is silent save for the constant wind, knocking the browning leaves from the branches of the trees around you and sending them twirling down to join their brothers on the ground. It looks like it's the middle of autumn, and the wind is chilly.
The contractors who built this suburb left areas like this between rows of houses, to add a touch of the wilderness to what would otherwise be long rows of nothing but housing development. Some of these had trails or small picnic areas in them, but you don't think this one has any of that save for what neighborhood kids would create. Still, even with the land as filled with scrub as it is it wouldn't be difficult to reach the next home row over walking through like this. Wait, theres another sound. The bushes over to your right are rustling. Something is coming through them.

Tyler ambles up the fence, and lands, awkwardly crouched over like an out-of-shape Spiderman. He stands, and looks to the others. Then, feeling a tad awkward, rather than consult his friends, he takes a couple steps forward himself.
Attempting to peer into the bushes from a safe distance, he calls out, "Hello? An-anybody there?"

The rustling stops. There are a few long, terse moments.
Then a pair of shapes bolt out of the bushes. A pair of dogs. One of them is a large, mangy looking golden retriever. The other is far smaller, a beagle of some kind. The beagle has a collar, and the retriever looks to be carrying a....black...thing, and they are tearing it up like a couple of bats out of hell. They run into the ditch to your side, use the momentum to propel themselves up the other side and.... Run into a hole. Not the hole into "your" backyard, a different hole. Now that you look you can see similar holes knocked in the fence all the way up and down it, leading into different yards. MARV: With your eyesight, you can tell, even at the glimpse you manage to catch, what the retriever was carrying: a rabbit, charred to a crisp.

Sascha stood up as rapidly as she could and went on high alert. Her mind partitioned, both halves working independently at analyzing all the sensory data available. Another partition opened up, connecting directly in a fast track to her spinal cord.
She was ready to move really quickly if she had to.

Tyler grips one of his flashlights, taking a half-step back.He stumbles a bit, and looks down.
Unbeknownst to him, his flashlight had lengthened, while maintaining width. Out of nowhere, his power had turned it into a flash-staff. Needless to say, a quite pleasant surprise. And suddenly, Tyler was feeling a tad less nervous, "Hey, uh, we...should probably go and see about that, huh?"

Rorschev climbes out of the basement, his eyes blinking as they adjust to the light, before wearily making his way into the kitchen area, seeing that the others are already outside.
(My character checks the kitchen for anything possibly usefull, cloth, a kitchen knife, toothpicks basically anything he could use or mcguiver in a desperate situation.) |

Ben was unnerved, even more so now that the image of the dog's prey cycled through his mind again and again. He backpedaled away from the woods in front of him and pressed his back against the cool wood of the fence, holding onto it as if his life depended on it. His eyes darted back and forth in his sockets scanning the world for something, anything out of the ordinary. The problem was, everything was alien to him.
"This isn't right guys. Something is wrong here! Something is really, really wrong. Look around. Those holes...in the fences. Who or...what made them? I don;t like this. And those dogs. Did you see them, what that one was carrying?!?! Maybe we should just go back in the shelter. I don't like it out here." As Ben spoke the metal nails in the fence began to vibrate. It was slow at first, but as he grew more frantic the nails shook harder and harder until the began splintering the the woodwork and firing from their sockets one by one.

A thought whirred into place.
"What was it you saw? I only caught a snatch of black." Sascha said without taking her eyes off anything.

More metal starts floating around Ben as if he had his own gravitational pull. He slid his back down the fence and pulled in his knees.
"It was...a....a..." Ben's sentence trails off as he starts to truly panic.

"What it was carrying? I couldn't see" Nix says quickly, caught up in the adrenaline of the moment. He was about to speak more when the fence began rattling behind him. The first of the nails catches him in the back of his right knee, causing him to fall to the ground as more nails whiz over his head.
Vault: How much damage do I take? Also, feel free to make his lack of sleep catch up to him at some point.

"Whoa, watch out!" Tyler's attention snapped quickly from Nix, and he dropped to the ground, as nails whiz over his head, past his ears, all narrowly missing his body.
One zings his shoulder narrowly, and as he cries out, stung with pain, the nail bounces off of him, multiplying fifty times. Tyler looks up from on the ground, blinking nervously, and calls to Ben, "...Dude, what the heck?"

Ben whimpered weakly and the rotating ring of metal collapsed on the ground where the smaller pieces continued to roll in a circle in a more subdued manner. Ben breathed in and out heavily trying to calm down as the others stared and yelled at him.
