Germany is still traumatized from WWII.
Also: A black dragon was attacking this elven spell-caster's family. The spellcaster makes a deal with dark powers to be able to defeat it. They go to far..  This comes back to bite them in the butt.  When it kills potential allies against the forces of EVIL!
