Can you tell me more about the life cycles of the Automatons?

Do they just get made every so often? Do they age/wear out/break down? Do they have any kind of familial relations?

Each family make their own "Children" by imbuing a part of each of their life force into a blank Automaton. They do age noticeably and seem to change as they age.
