Re: Talis v. Ozwald

A blue spindly form crept through the ruined the city.

"The secret to immortality has to be around here somewhere" Talis said thinking out loud. "Just imagine, a dozen creatures all kept alive by a parasitic host. With a little dissection, I might be able to apply that same life preservation to myself!"

The fleshy side of his manticore form stretches up and grabs the roof of an abandoned parking garage and Talis pulls himself up to the new vantage point. Sliding into one of the hidden corners of the structure, Talis begins to stake out the area for his target, the creature known as Ozwald. It was a silly name for a parasite he imagined.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Ozwald walked, or rather skipped, down the rubble strewn streets of the crumbling city. This place reminded him of home oddly enough. As he joyfully and innocently explored the dusty rubble, he spoke out loud in a childish voice. He seemed to be holding a one sided conversation, but in reality, was speaking to the denizens of the gate that composed his small body.

"We don't have time for this nonsense you brat! Get moving!" chastised one of the unheard voices.

Ozwald smiled in response. Or at least gave the impression of smiling, his mask made it difficult to tell.

"There's nobody around and I'm having fun!", Ozwald cheered out loud.

It was not long before the parasite came into sight. As the only source of noise within the city, it was not hard for Talis to become aware of its approach either. Waiting for the creature to pass by underneath his current vantage point on the abandoned parking garage's roof, Talis flicks the manticore's tail and sends a poisoned spike down from above toward the back of the creature's head.

Ozwald's happy stroll was interrupted by a queer whistling noise. He turned his head to locate the source, just as the spike came shrieking towards his head. With a hollow thunk, the spike lodged itself harmlessly into Ozwald's mask. The force of the impact knocked him flat on his rear end.

"What was THAT?!" he cried out.

"Up there you idiot! On that structure!"

"Oh! He hit me! That wasn't very nice!" Ozwald muttered to himself before shouting to the distant figure, "HEY, WHY DID YOU DO THAT! THAT WAS MEAN!"

Talis already has a notepad out and was excitedly scribbling notes. "Subject possesses an accurate sense of hearing. Solid mask-like appendage attached to subject's facial region. Parasitic host has attempted to use some form of crude verbal communication."

The manticore's tail flicks again while Talis processes his notes. "Be kind would you and catch this with something other than your mask please! I have observations to make!"
