Actually, there is a point. The madness has a reason. The reason is that there are some places that don't allow people to use Soulswords for the reason that Soulswords can be highly destructive. Some heal but that's in the minority. That's the reason secondary weapons are needed.

Possibly. The time when a Soulsword wielder realizes how to use a higher Soulsword state comes is usually in the middle of battle. Thus, the Mars Combat Academy and its branch schools.
Just out of curiousity what did you choose for Neken's Hyper and Ultimate Soulsword states?
For the Hyper State the bandages that coat his body from the Released state unravel around the arms to reveal hard beetle-like shell. Jakob can then turn anything he touches to sand and control that sand.
Name: "Clariss" Mao
Student Rank: 87 (I suppose)
Weapon: Katana?
Powers: Superhuman Reflexes
Chi
Soulsword: Blade of the Forceful Dancer
1. Released State: Strike, Dancer (The katana becomes a bladed war-fan.)
-Powers: Increased speed, agility and balance.
2. Hyper State: Not Achieved.
3. Ultimate Form: Not Achieved.
Magic: Fire, Metal
Power Cards: -
Martial Arts: Tessenjutsu
Though born to an esteemed (if minor) family of warriors, Clariss has a singularly lack-luster attitude. She prefers relaxing and goofing off to acutally practicing, which leaves her somewhat behind in the student rankings. She has a bizarre fascination for exotic otherworldly cultures, even going so far as to adopt names from them.
This good?
“She'd become a governess. It was one of the few jobs a known lady could do. And she'd taken to it well. She'd sworn that if she did indeed ever find herself dancing on rooftops with chimney sweeps she'd beat herself to death with her own umbrella.”

I will commence designing a world that your students won't one-hit-kill.

Doon't worry, as the missions would be for training purposes, none of the students from the Mars Combat Academy or its branch, the Minerva Academy, would be more powerful than the Heads. I don't know about Shadowulf's Celadon Academy's students though.

@Marv: Yes, the ones with the Greek letters as designations.
@Zale: Probably only Arinee Solando for the ones with ranks lower than 34 and she'll never be more than a supervisor during missions.
@Shadowulf: How was I supposed to know that?
