Power Categorization.

I think we should make categories for powers, such as:
Object -Powers based in objects (e.g. Jacket of Wonders).
Psionic -Powers which manipulate the outside world using the power of the mind (e.g. Telekinesis).
Travel -Powers for transport (e.g. Teleportation).
Energy -Powers which manipulate energy (e.g. Heat Eater).
Informational -Powers for the collection and processing of information (e.g. Precognition).
Protective -Powers for protection of the user (e.g. Pack Invulnerability).
Power Based -Powers which interact with other powers (e.g. Empathic Mimicry).

Does anyone think I should add more? Please specify.

Note: These categories are for the power's primary purpose, as many could be used for other purposes.

My categorization would be like this


Mental-anything that is caused by the mind such as pyrokinesis and telekinesis

Magical-anything caused by magic or some undefined force-such as any spell

Biological-anything caused by self enhancements or unique physiology this includes the use viruses

Object(sometimes overlapped by magical)-requires an object or a summon

Cosmic-anything that manipulates reality or space time or stars and universes

Sensual-any type of supersense that does not come from biological such as intuition

Technological-any power that deals with using technology this includes nanobots

Latent-anything that serves as a defense or only works in certain situations-anti-telepathy, immutability, power negation

How about these categories, by their basis:
Object -Powers based in objects.
Biological -Powers which stem from ones own body.
Mythical -Powers which have a magical of mythical origin.

I think it should be classifieds as follows:

Physical (body based powers...Superhuman Strength/Speed/Stamina, etc.)

Mental (mind based powers...divided into "Mental Perceptive", such as Empathy, Superhuman Intelligence, etc. and "Mental Interactive" such as Telekinesis, Pyrokinesis, etc.)

Spiritual (spirit based abilities...Astral Projection, MythPowers, divine abilities, demonic abilities, etc.)

Magical (magic based abilities... Magic, Magic Mimicry, summoning abilities, object-based non-divine abilities, etc.)

Random abilities (powers that allow one to control, become, mimic, or perceive obscure elements...1st power, Un-Sophistication, Cookakinesis, Crack Tart, Lotion Mimicry, etc.)

Of course some powers would intersect classifications.

We DO have a search function, So why do we need categories?

Suggestion..

If there was one, then base it on HOW a power does something not WHAT it does.

Examples!

Power A gives you super-strength by giving increased muscle density.

The Effect is Super-strength  the "how" is increased muscle density, Because it is caused by something physical it is a physical power .


Power B gives you super-strength by taping your psionic reserves and using them to reinforce and fuel your muscles.

The Effect is Super-strength  the "how" is psionic energy, Because it is caused by something psionic it is a psionic power .


Power C gives you super-strength by using magic (Bending the rules of physics through and unknown energy) to make everything you touch -and sometimes you- temporarily lighter.

The Effect is Super-strength  the "how" is magic, Because it is caused by something magical it is a magical power .


Or one that makes a kinetic force field around you. (Energy Power)

Or one that warps gravity. (Space-time)

Etc, Etc.
